Black and Decker Complete Guide to Wiring provides accurate and helpful information. I have found many uses for this book and would recommend it highly to those who are familiar with the fundamentals of electricity and have a healthy respect for it. I used to be an electrician many years ago. I have found this manual to be very helpful in refreshing my memory to a point. This is definitely not for the novice, do it yourself, electrician. Overstock is great!
The book is good for general purposes... it does not get into specifics applicable to Codes or the like, but I didn't really expect it to. Was more interested in tips and ideas on fishing, specific wiring diagrams for things like 3 and 4-way switches, etc. If you are already a fairly advanced DIY'er, this wiring manual would serve you well. If you are not at all handy or either have a respected fear or no fear of working with electricity, this is not for you, call in a professional. For my thoughts, the theory behind, the specific diagrams of wiring, and esp the pictures of how to fish through walls, ceilings, etc is the most valuable part of this book. It "shows" you how or at the very least, gives you an idea of how if could or should be done, so even if you don't attempt to DIY, if you do end up calling in a pro or handy-person, you can at least have a general idea if THEY are doing things in an acceptable way. What you cannot rely on is in some of the "how to's", if plastic boxes, Romex etc are allowed by your local codes. No one book can possibly explain and specify that, but if you take this for the general help it should be intended, it'll do well.
