As the companion of several birds, I found this book very satisfying: it validated how I feel about my birds. Many people don't believe me when I tell them how intelligent, sensitive, and compassionate my feathered friends are. But here's a scientist who not only studies birds, but also has a companion bird and feels a spiritual connection with them. A must for anyone who is "owned" by a bird or who just wants to understand avian nature.

Thanks to the zooming power of binoculars, you can gain access to sights that would otherwise be inaccessible. Binoculars are perfect for bird watching, taking on a hike and a plethora of other uses. However, spotting sights are only as good as the maintenance that goes into them. A broken or dirty pair of binoculars isn't going to do the job correctly. Whether you have a pair of bird watching binoculars, night vision binoculars, a monocular or any other variety of binoculars, they'll only work correctly if you give them the proper care. Make sure you keep the window to nature open by keeping your binoculars in good working condition. Here are some tips to make sure your binoculars have a long shelf life.
Spotting scopes, sometimes referred to as monoculars, are small, telescope-like optics that began as tools used by the military. Today, they are widely used in the consumer market for hunting, bird watching, viewing ships, scoring shooting range targets and photography. Spotting scopes can mount on a common camera tripod and are quite suitable for daytime use. They provide more magnification than binoculars and are more portable than most telescopes.
Many outdoor activities have recently grown in popularity, including nature watching with binoculars. From watching larger animals, like deer and bear, to watching delicate birds or raptors in flight, a pair of binoculars is an important accessory. They can also give you a better view at a concert or sporting event, and you may not have known that you can use binoculars for star gazing. The world has so many amazing things out there for you to see, and to see it all clearly, you'll need binoculars. If you are not sure how to buy them, let this buying guide help you focus on your new hobby.
Down comforters are popular choices for bedding because they provide thick and soft covering as you sleep. Down is a soft layer of fluff that lies directly underneath the feathers of most birds. Down comforters help keep you warm during colder months without letting you get overheated. Luckily, it's possible to find down comforters on sale when you know what to look for. Look below to learn how to choose down comforters on sale.
Warm and incredibly soft, down comforters are the height of luxurious bedding. Like all other bedding, down comforters can range from inexpensive to costly. The proof is in the filling. Inexpensive down comforters are filled with a combination of down and polyester or down and feathers. The best down comforters, which are usually also the most expensive, are full of pure, thick down. Take a look below to learn the best fills for down comforters. Hungarian goose down: Hungarian goose down is considered the most luxurious type of down. These extreme cold-weather birds have very thick, almost odorless tufts of down at the base of their feathers. This heavy, long-lasting down is most often used in comforters with a fill rating of 800, which means they can keep a person warm even in cold conditions. Eiderdown: Eiderdown is harvested by hand from the abandoned nests of Eider ducks, which pluck the down from their own backs and use it to cover their eggs. Eider ducks live in cold climates, so their down is thick and heavy. It is used in high-quality comforters with a fill rating of between 700 and 800. Eider duck down is the only type of duck down used in high-quality comforters. All other duck down is usually considered too smelly (and some duck down has tiny barbs) and is used in much less expensive comforters. Grey and white goose down: Grey goose down is used in dark comforters due it its grey color, but it is the same as white goose down in all other ways. Grey and white goose down, which is usually harvested from European or Chinese geese, is the most popular type of down used in middle-price-range pure down comforters. These comforters usually have a fill rating of 600 and above. Hypodown: Hypodown is a mixture of white goose down and milkweed. This all-natural filling is hypoallergenic and much more durable than pure down comforters. While pure down is still considered to be the preferable fill for comforters by most people, hypodown is gaining popularity with consumers who want a longer lasting product without synthetic fills. The well-known rhyme "April showers bring May flowers" is a simple example of the natural cycle of renewal that happens in the spring. April's rainy days are a good reminder that it's time to get your garden planted. By May, you'll be enjoying the flowers you've grown. Many factors go into maintaining your garden, however. The first step is to contact your local nursery to see what grows best in your area. After that, follow Mother Nature's example and use the natural spring cycle as a guideline for caring for your own growing plants.
Fountains add the relaxing sound of running water to any setting. Outdoor fountains allow water to spout, jet, pour or trickle into a basin before draining away. Fountains range in size from burbling rock gardens ideal for tabletops to large pieces of public art. If you live in an urban area or a busy apartment complex, you can use a fountain to create a sense of privacy by masking traffic and other noises. When choosing an outdoor fountain, first consider how much space you have. Many yards can accommodate large pedestal-style outdoor fountains while a smaller fountain will create a focal point in a petite flower garden. The longer the waterfall, the more noise it creates; consider volume when choosing your garden fountain.
