This is a charming book for those who want to build a birdhouse in a day. No question there. But, it is NOT a good book for people who want to build birdhouses that actual wild birds will inhabit. By all means, purchase this if you are just making Decorative Birdhouses as ornaments - just not for wild birds much beyond English Sparrows or Starlings - if you need them out of your eaves... The openings are wrong, the sizes are wrong, the paint is wrong... well, as a wild bird rehabilitator I would not advise 90% of these for real live wild birds. A few are OK for actual birds. A couple of the feeder projects. But not even most of the feeder projects included - no seed drainage. Birds can pass diseases from dirty feeders and houses and for most of these designs, cleaning them is not even built in. However, if you're building cute indoor decor, go crazy! Some of the painted houses included were done apparently with poster paint by 1st graders. Even if you're only building it in a day... well, you might want to spend a bit of time making it look better...!
This was a very good book on building bird house for all types of birds. I paln to use it very much in my wordworking shop.
I am a jack of all trades: wood working, gardening, machinery, etc. I find that books like this work for me. Book is very informative and helpful for my making my friends comfortable in window and all seasons. thank you
