Lane Myer's (John Cusack) dreams are shattered when his girlfriend Beth (Amanda Wyss) decides she prefers the company of a sleazy ski jock over his own. This disheartening news leads Lane to attempt to take his own life in various ways--all of which never seem to work out. But if he can beat Beth's new boyfriend in a ski run down the treacherous K-12, he may be able to win her back. Along the way, Lane also encounters a beautiful French exchange student, a nasal spray-snorting neighbor, a rabid newspaper boy, and dancing hamburgers. Savage Steve Holland (ONE CRAZY SUMMER) directs this 1985 cult favorite.

Better Off Dead
great movie from the 80's I would recommend it to all those who want to live their youth. The classic lines have been used in other movies, which is rather funny.

I had never heard of this movie or John Cusack when it first came out (I guess in the early 90's), but I rented it because the kid's dad was out of town and I wanted to be sure to rent a movie he didn't paticularly care about seeing. It was hillarious and we rented it again when dad got back and have rented it 8 or 9 times in the years since. But, now it's next to impossible to find to rent. So, I finally broke down and bought 3, 1 for each kid. I think they'll get a kick out of it. For all drama and intense John Cusack fans, this is the movie to see. I think he left his calling.Now I want my 2 dollars!

this is a great movie. Clean, good for family, and hilarious. I recommend it to everyone. Just wish Overstock's price were a little lower.
