I liked the way he describes the different kind of sugar addictions a person might have and what to do about it. The author doesn't make you feel like a bad person just because you love sugar. This book has changed the way I look at food, and I am pretty excited about it. I am ready to lose weight, to feel better and to have a better life. Having just finished reading it, I haven't started yet, but I have faith that I will. This is not an unrealistic plan and there are no specific weight loss goals or promises. Nowhere in this book does he say ?You will lose 30 pounds in the first 4 months-guaranteed!? or anything like that, because those kind of claims are either BS or based on unhealthy weight loss goals. This is not a diet book. It's not about following a plan to reach a set weight and then stopping. This is about changing your life and your lifestyle for good. It's about saying good bye to some things and adding a lot of other things in. I thought this would just be a preachy book telling me what a bad person I am for eating brownies and how I need to do better. Instead there isn't any judgment. I never felt like he was accusing me of being fat because of what I've done. Instead, everything is very logical, just giving info about how the body processes things, how people feel when they are suffering from sugar addiction, and what people can do to get healthy again. The book was broken up into chunks which made it very readable. First it talks about sugar addiction and you figure out what kind of sugar addict you are (there are different kinds based on what your body is doing that makes you want to eat sugar).Then there are treatment plans for each kind of addiction, and it's not just stopping eating candy. There's medicines and natural health stuff to do, and things you can take like vitamins and things to help your body do its work better. Then there's a whole section on different diseases you might have and how you can make them better or even cure them by taking natural vitamins and getting more sleep and taking medicine and exercising and stuff.At the end there's lists of doctors and places to buy vitamins and lists of foods to eat. What I'm trying to say is this book makes it pretty easy for you. All you need to do is fill out the questions and follow what it tells you to do. I am planning on starting right now. You need to read this for your kids' health if you have kids. My baby was only one year old but she had a sore throat and weird white stuff in her throat. The doctor says it is thrush, and it is like a special kind of yeast infection in her thoat. It sounds totally gross and it is totally gross but I will do anything to help my daughter. I didn't know that every time I gave her juice in her sippy cup it could be making her sick. I made sure it was 100% real juice but it was still bad, and I didn't know. There was a lot of other stuff in here that I had no idea. This book is not aimed just at parents, and there are no special parts to tell you how to make foods your toddler will eat without too much sugar. But it was not hard to learn about what I need to eat and then give it to her. There are some weird medical ideas about natural things you can do, but maybe they aren't bad ideas just different from what you can get at rite aid or cvs. I felt really bad that I was giving her foods she liked but it wasn't good for her. A lot of food like goldfish crackers and juice and pop tarts was making her sick and I had no idea. It was making me sick too. I am glad I sat down an looked at this book. I am doing a lot of different things now. I had a hard time finding out what to eat at first, but now we have a lot more healthy snacks, like celery with peanut butter (without sugar-you have to buy it at a special store) and like hummus and raw apples and a whole bunch of food I thought would be gross but it is not. It is good and she likes it so much. Every morning she has healthy food instead of sugar cereal. It is more expensive at first until you learn where to buy it and what to buy. Now it is cheap to eat right and we are real careful and no more yucky slimy white stuff in her mouth and throat. That is worth buying this book and learning what to do.Read More
My eight year old son had had 3 sinus infections just this year, and after reading this book I think I know why. I got this book in an attempt to deal with my own obesity, but I have also gotten really fired up thinking about what could be going on inside his body. He has been repeatedly on broad spectrum antibiotics for strep throat, sinus infections, and ear infections. After reading about yeast over growth, I am convinced that this is what's causing his problems. He also never used to be very excited about sweet foods, but in the past year as he has gotten repeatedly very sick and been on several courses of the antibiotics, he has started whining for us to get him candy and he has been more excited about dessert. If this book is right, that's because the yeast living inside of him need sugar to keep going and they're making him crave sugar to feed themselves The idea of invisible malevolent beings living inside of my child and forcing him to crave foods that aren't good for him makes me so damn mad! Luckily this book doesn't just tell you what's wrong and stop there. It is chock full of answers, plans, and advice. No more trips to the doctor to get loaded up with antibiotics that will make his symptoms worse and cause him more sickness in the end. Instead, we will be cutting sugar and flour out of his diet and see if we can get to the root of his sinusitis. And I will be doing it right along with him because I still need to lose weight. I am a vegan and this will be especially hard for me as the book recommends things like fish and eggs. But I know that what I need to focus on is lentils and beans and making sure that I eat complex carbs and complete protein combinations at every meal. I bet one of the reasons that I have the health problems I do and crave sugar so much is that I am lazy and don't always eat balanced meals with complete protein combinations. Especially in the morning, I tend to start my day with fruit and starches and that just sets me up. I always wondered why I was hungry again so soon after eating something heavy like pancakes in the morning. Now I know. I will be making a big effort to prep food at night to set myself up for a better breakfast. This book also stresses simply walking outside. I have no excuse not to pop the baby in his stroller and enjoy the sunshine, especially when I know it will benefit both of us. This book is careful never to accuse anyone or point the finger at people or call them lazy or greedy, but I will point it at myself and say it's time to do something different. This book gives me the info I need and the motivation to do something about it. I am excited to enter a new phase of my life.Read More
