PAT CONROY, America’s preeminent storyteller, delivers a sweeping novel of lyric intensity and searing truth–the story of Jack McCall, an American expatriate in Rome, scarred by tragedy and betrayal. His desperate desire to find peace after his wife’s suicide draws him into a painful, intimate search for the one haunting secret in his family’s past that can heal his anguished heart.

Spanning three generations and two continents, from the contemporary ruins of the American South to the ancient ruins of Rome, from the unutterable horrors of the Holocaust to the lingering trauma of Vietnam, Beach Music sings with life’s pain and glory. It is another masterpiece in PAT CONROY’S legendary list of beloved novels.

Pat Conroy is the bestselling author of The Water is Wide, The Great Santini, The Lords of Discipline, The Prince of Tides, and Beach Music. He lives in Fripp Island, South Carolina.

One of the best books I have ever read. Couldn't wait to finish to see how it all ended

This is one of my favorite authors, and I've read several of his earlier books. Being from the same southern regions and growing up going to the same beaches and towns in which his books are set, the stories conjur up a comfortable familiarity in my mind. But this book surprised me when I began to come across what I call "bad words". I almost put it down, feeling betrayed by what I considered his "selling out" to a world in which vulgar language sells books. I kept reading, though, and began to think that this vulgar language was a descriptive part of the world in which he lived. A drunk, abusive father would talk this way, and a family of five boys and no girls would pick it up and use it as easily as any southern girl learns to say please and thank you. So I read on. I enjoyed the stories so eloquently told in a way that kept me looking forward to the next chapter. The author's storehouse of words blows one's mind. I like the comfort of holding the paper back, but not too small, design of the book. The order was shipped out immediately, in time for my upoming trip during which I planned to read it. Overall, I am very pleased with everything I've ever ordered from your company.
