Atomic Ranch is an in-depth exploration of post-World War II residential architecture in America. Mid-century ranches (1946-1970) range from the decidedly modern gable-roofed Joseph Eichler tracts in the San Francisco Bay area and butterfly wing houses in Palm Springs, Florida, to the unassuming brick or stucco L-shaped ranches and split-levels so common throughout the United States.

a great resource for mid century modern enthusiasts. the book is well researched, features good photography and a wealth of interior design inspiration.
I am an avid fan of all things mid centruy modern and have had a subscription to Atomic Ranch mag for years. I was excited when this book finally came out. Eh. Some good stuff, some not so good stuff. Some of the homes in this book are far from authentic mid century modern....I could imagine plenty of the furnishings in your run-of-the mill chain stores and many of the homes and their decor are just blah. At times I thought I was looking at a Miami Vice 80's book with the cheezy glass blocks and neon painted walls. Plus, editing was lax with some glaring typos that I found hard to get beyond. The magazine is much better and there are superior books (any countless online resources) out there about this subjet.
I ordered this book in 3/4. I still have not received it yet. Spending a few cents is better than waiting for the book for one month. I hope I can get money back.
I am a huge fan of the publication on which this wonderful book is based. Since I only recently discovered "Atomic Ranch" as a magazine, and most all of their back issues are sold I out, I was delighted to find the book here on Overstock. The photographs are beautifully done and the color is brilliant. I am a midcentury modern enthusiast and hope to one day own a home built on an Eichler floorplan. This book is a wonderful resource for anyone with interest in midcentury modern homes and the furnishings that filled them. It truly is timeless!
This is a beautiful book that looks at an interesting period of design and artchitecture. The homes featured throughout the book show how homes of this era have been preserved and upgraded throughout the years. I love looking through it a section at a time. Great value.
