Philip G. Altbach is the Monan Professor of Higher Education and director of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College. Gumport is vice provost for graduate education and a professor of education at Stanford University and director of the Stanford Institute for Higher Education. She is editor of Sociology of Higher Education: Contributions and Their Contexts, also published by Johns Hopkins. Robert O. Berdahl is professor emeritus of higher education at the University of Maryland and author of British Universities and the State and Statewide Coordination of Higher Education.
