  This was the next best thing to a support group for me. It helped me to have some insite into what my 88yo mom was going thru with aging and losing her ability to take care of herself. It helped me to find the words to comfort her and help her with the process. I was frustrated and so was she. I was able to have more understanding for her and to not take things that she said to me so peronally. She passed away a few months after my reading the book. I was so glad that I had read it.

  I had heard about Oscar and wondered how they could write an entire book on him! This book is especially wonderful in helping you understand and empathize with caretakers of ailing family members and/or friends. I would especially recommend the book as a gift to those who have family members or friends with alzheimers as it seems to provide a wonderful understanding of what to expect, along with some consolation and reassurance that others are experiencing the same emotions as they are taking care of loved ones who are "unlearning" life during this awful disease. I am not a caretaker nor do I know anyone who has alzheimers. However, I was fully engaged in the book which completely engrosses you in the lives of various families and how they and their loved ones were able to better cope with death and dying through the loving companionship of Oscar.

  I bought this book for my 82yr old aunt and she loves it. Full of laughs, scriptures, and fun stories which she can relate to.
