I don't usually care much for musicals, but this one is terrific. Much of it is very funny, and all of it is highly entertaining. It shows much of the struggle and debate, led by John Adams along with Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, to get our Declaration passed through the Continental Congress.
1776 tells the story of the Declaration of Independence, from choosing the committe to write it and the battles to get passed and signed unanimously. The political struggles were real, the great men were capable of being petty and selfish as well as brilliant. It's a compelling story which i make a point to watch every 4th of July and every election day. The cast is superb, and the production is terrific.
This is a wonderful movie musical. Although not quite accurate historically, it's close enough. I would recommend this for family viewing.
