Useful
A useful guide to parents who have tried everything and don't have the time to read the book. I learn by seeing so there are examples of the 1-2-3 magic technique in use. Note, this is really just a video of Dr Phelan's seminar, so if you have been to one, you don't get anything more. It probably could have been shortened somewhat, especially for those who have read the first few chapters of the book. The video runs for two hours so that could be an issue for time starved parents. Also, this is only part one, about stopping bad behaviour. For the other bit, about building the relationship with your child and encouraging good behaviour, you need to buy the second disc, 'More 1-2-3 Magic'.

This video was very helpful to us. Our 5 year old was getting in trouble constantly at school for not listening. He didn't listen to us either. Now he does. It is great.

Great Parenting Skills
I have used 1-2-3 Magic with great success with my own three kids, and as a staff development tool for parenting classes and for elementary school teachers. I have found Thomas Phelen's techniques to be "spot on" and fairl easy to implement. His examples are very practical and realistic, and he eliminates many common parenting pitfalls through a series of "troubleshooting" tips. If you like "Super Nanny" then you will also love 1-2-3 Magic. 1-2-3 Magic quickly restores order in most chaotic households. There is alsio a followup DVD ("More 1-2-3 Magic") which is also very worthwhile and similarly practical that concentrates more on developing a positive relationship with your child. Good luck with raising your families!
