Two things I love about having a heated mattress pad: 1. In the winter, with a few minutes warning, you can slip into pre-warmed sheets, so no hopping into frigid linen! 2. When you sleep in a little or want to read before getting up in the morning, it's a great little helper. This one is on the expensive side. I paid the extra because I did not want to be able to feel the heater wires through my sheet. Even with the extra quilted top, it is possible to detect them, but far less than the last one I bought. If you plan on leaving the heating on all night, you should be aware that the heat cycles on and off and that on our one, there is a distinct hum when it does this. The controlls ar enice and easy to use and will sit well on a bedside table. they are illuminated with a very soft glow so you can see that they are on and see the setting.
