I have been contemplating purchasing these sheets for months. In talking with my friend (whom actually has purchased several sets of these sheets from O.com) she brought into work a pillow case for me to "feel". I was very impressed -- but still did not purchase for weeks later. I finally took the plunge and hit submit -- I must tell you that these are the BEST sheets I have ever owned. Are they pricey, definitely; however, they are a worth while investment that you will have for years. In addition, my husband, continued to comment on the quality, and "how they feel" several days after they were on the bed.....he doesn't ever notice anything like this! I knew I had a winner here, and now the bar has been set so high, there will be no going back to the 400 thread count sheets. Our bed is like a little piece of heaven, but Beware, it's difficult to get out of it ;) I was so impressed with the quality and "feel" of the sheets that I did not see a need to launder them prior to making the bed. Yep, took them right out of the packaging, right to the bed. I believe the reason I was reluctant to purchase the sheets for so long are some of the reviews -- most of the reviews are definitely high markings; however for me it were those few that kept me from purchasing. It got to the point that I needed new sheets and in looking at the big box stores I wasn't impressed with what they had to offer. Keeping in mind my desire to purchase the 1600 EC sheets. I purchased the entire set along with the extra pillow cases; the queen size and we have the down mattress cover that these fit over perfectly -- so the deep pockets have alot to live up to, and they don't disappoint. This is one of the best purchases I have made through Overstock, the second is the down filled mattress topper . They are lush and smooth -- they have a satin sheen to them because of the tightly worven thread count. If you can afford to purchase, take a leap of faith -- You won't be sorry!Read More

Bed Sheet Thread Count Fact Sheet
The thread count of bed sheets refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric. For example, if a square inch of fabric in a 300-thread count sheet with a standard weave were examined closely, 150 vertical threads and 150 horizontal threads would be counted, for a sum total of 300. The higher the thread count, the softer and smoother the sheets will be. Thread count is an important consideration to take when choosing a new set of sheets, but it should not be used as a sole indicator of quality. Equally important in choosing a bed sheet is the type and quality of the materials used as well as the fabric's weave.
