I love this comforter and I'm so happy I bought it! This comforter is well made. For those who've never had a silk comforter, they aren't puffy like down but instead flat so they drape nicely on the bed. Although lightweight, it's warm but still comfortable in the warm southern summers. I put a 320tc duvet cover on mine and I love how the comforter drapes on me. Feels very luxurious-as soft as down, only lighter and allergy free since silk is naturally dust mite resistant. I recommend using a duvet with this since it's dryclean only but with proper care you shouldn't have to do that but every 5-10 years. This is a bargain price, too! BTW, fill weight wasn't listed on overstock's website but the package says full/queen is 40oz and king is 50oz which is equal to other silk comforters I looked at at much higher prices. Very happy with my purchase!
I bought one of these first and loved it so much that I ordered another one. Wonderful quality - the cotton cover is silky and smooth and looks great without a duvet covering it. The 100% silk fill is warm and cool at the same time, absolutely perfect for summer! A pleasure to slip under this cover!
This is not a traditional Chinese silk duvet, which is fluffy & soft. They are filled with low quality/inferior short silk fiber instead of long floss mulberry silk, which is very pricey. For the price, it is not bad, using just as a summer blanket. For those of you who are interested in authentic Chinese silk duvet, I recommend you go to other website or sources to find long floss mulberry silk fill. You can definitely tell the difference. This is a bargain item for people who don't really know silk that much or as a starter for using silk duvet. I only give a 2 star because of the quality.
This King size (50 oz.)Silk filled Damask stripe 260tc comforter seems really nice. It is heavier than I thought it would be, but not too heavy. I would say it is about twice the thickness of a good quality handmade quilt. The weight is like two nice quilts as well. I purchased this because I read that silk helps to regulate body temp so you don't get too hot or cold. Seems good so far. Also, doesn't attract dust mites. I really don't know too much about silk comforters. I have read that like down, the heavier, the warmer. I also understand there are different types of silk fill. This package only states size and weight as Twin 63x86 30 oz. Queen 86x86 40oz. King 102x86 50oz. This weight seems good for this part of the country (southern northeast). The FQ size is small for me. I like plenty to turn down and over hang on the sides. I purchased the King. I use mine like a bed spread. The King would be perfect for a Queen size bed in my opinion. Mine bed is a Full size. A little big, but have plans for a Queen bed and like the extra room. The Damask stripe outside is very pretty! Also, has a pretty satin piping! Too bad it has to be in a duvet, it is very pretty! The only draw back for me is that it has to be dry cleaned. I did read one account of a person who accidently washed their silk comforter. It came out okay. I will keep mine in a duvet and dry clean when needed. They do not need dry cleaning every season. It is suggested to hang it out on a line in the fresh air and sun. The price is great compared to other Silk comforters I have seen. Overstock transaction was perfect! I give this Silk filled comforter five stars for price, quality and comfort!
I've had this silk comforter for almost a year now and love it. I bought it to replace an overstuffed down comforter that was giving me allergies. Aesthetically, I was over the fluffy bed look, and wanted a "flatter" comforter and a neater, trimmer look. This comforter delivers at a bargain price. It looks great with my simple, white duvet. I've found it warm enough through fall, but I may pair it with a coverlet for winter. Again, it is NOT for people who want a fluffy down alternative comforter -- silk is a much more compact fiber, perfect for people who want a more spartan, simple look to their bed. Also, note that this comforter is dry clean only.
Bought this as an alternative to down after much research into hypoallergenic duvet inserts. The price was 1/3 of what other sites are selling silk comforters for so I thought the quality might not be too good.I was wrong!I have never regretted this purchase though I do have to say it is not quite as light as down. But it is still lightweight and warm in the winter.
- How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Color was correct
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Very high quality
- How accurate was the on site description of the product? Quite accurate
According to the reviews, it was supposed to be light and worm. Light - yes. Warm - not really. Not warmer than our old wool blankets. Not warm enough for the winter. Still need one more layer (a comforter) over it. I suspect it is a "spring weight comforter", not a "winter weight comforter": "The weight refers to the amount of silk floss used in the fill. The winter weight comforter uses more silk floss fill and is heavier than the spring weight comforter". See http://silkcomforter.info/ for the guidelines on the weight.
My parents have several of these from Hong Kong, and this one is about 1/2 the weight (adjusting for size) than theirs. These are supposed to be heavy, yet flexible. So that you feel like you're in a cocoon. This one isn't really flexible (the damask cover is pretty stiff) and about the same weight as a regular down comforter. For those who aren't familiar with the real Chinese silk comfortors, this is an acceptable substitute for a down comforter, but doesn't approach the real thing in weight.
Though it does shed silk bits everywhere and is much thinner than I expected it still is warm and covers nicely. When I buy another comforter I will be sure to purchase one with more bulk as I know this one will not be enough for the cold winters.
Our down comforter, that we love, is just too warm for summer so we were looking for something a little lighter. We decided to try the Silk-filled Damask Stripe 260 thread count comforter because the price was so good. I was a little leery of it because other silk comforters were so much more expensive, but after reading the reviews we decided to try it. It has been a perfect weight and temperature for the summer! The only negative about it was the funny odor when it was fresh out of the box. I aired it out for a day or so and the smell seems to be gone.
While the quality seems fine there is a distinct odor that reminds me of cat spray! I put it on the guest bed and kept smelling something - thinking one of my cats had been in the room but then noticed it is the entire comforter. Have been airing it out & still not sure if I can use it. Probably should have sent it back but may see if cleaning will take care of it.
I highly recommend this for moderate climates. It's warm and comfortable without the itty bitty pieces of down coming out of down comforters (made an absolute mess in the bedroom). I don't think this will work for very cold environments. It's moderately warm. I'm in southern California with a cold spell and this works well along with another light/cotton comforter I use. It looks and feels like a thick quilt. The material is soft cotton which you will cover with a duvet.
Have no previous experience with silk. Was looking for an affordably priced silk filled comforter to see how family members with allergies liked them as an alternative to down. I got very favorable results: light weight, warm, adjusted well to body heat so they didn't sweat and get overheated yet were warm enought. Now we might be willing to invest in more expensive, higher quality ones.
I bought 4 of these - one for each daughter and one for husband and me, and I'm thinking about becoming a silk comforter hoarder so I'll never run out! :-) They are AMAZING!! I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing, and as someone else said, they are not puffy like the picture or like a down comforter, but to me that's a great thing. They don't "rattle" like some down comforters do, and they just fit like a cocoon. I take our thick, heavy, patterned comforter off at night and just sleep with a sheet and the silk blanket. I sleep better because I don't wake up hot or cold, and I feel more rested. After all these years of feeling like the princess and the pea trying to find bedding that works, I've finally found it. The label says dry clean, but at this price, I'll try washing it in a few months. I've seen others online that say they are washable, and I don't think it will hurt it. I'll repost when the time comes.
Can't beat the price on O. This is actually a well made duvet ( I always use duvet covers to protect them). I have one each for the entire family. I washed in warm water on delicate cycle once a year, and put it in the dryer on medium to low heat and let it air out after that. No damage at all after all the use.
