I spent 4 months trying to get comfortable on a high end memory foam mattress but failed miserably until I added a 2" natural latex pad. Since wool is pretty much waterproof, I decided this pad would lessen the possibility of having the the latex get wet if something spilled. I have not yet done a water test on the pad, but discovered benefits I didn't expect: My feet are usually freezing due to poor circulation. Now when I get in bed my feet and legs get warm and stay that way all night, yet I'm never too hot. The pad fits perfectly, stays tight, and makes it so the bottom sheet doesn't shift or bunch. It's soft and comfortable, and seems to make the latex a tiny bit stiffer, which I like. I'm awakening with fewer aches than ever before, and my cat likes the feel of the pad so well, she's sleeping next to me rather than on top of me. I haven't noticed any odor, but with a house full of dogs and cats, that's not surprising. The only downside is a lack of washing directions. I plan to wash this pad in my front loader using cold water on the gentle cycle with low or no spin. Assuming the weather is with me, I'll hang it out to dry.

This is my first wool mattress pad purchase, but so far I am very pleased! It was absolutely the best price I'd seen (after quite a bit of shopping around.) We just bought a foam mattress and found it's hotter at night than our old spring mattress, and bought the wool cover to hopefully help with that. I haven't noticed a huge difference in temperature, but the pad is thick and helped the mattress feel firmer. Also - some reviewers mentioned the "smell" - it was not overwhelming to me at all, and I'm very sensitive to chemical type smells. It did have a slight scent, but I would describe it as mildly "sheepy." Which, I'd say, is probably to be expected. I did order a wool cover, after all... ;D
I thought everything else I've purchased from Overstock was good quality at an excellent price but
this time they overdid themselves.
I've been wanting to get one of these lambswool pads for years - YEARS, I say - but was deterred by the cost. I saw this at Overstock for *** (at least) less than other places so I thought I'd give it a shot. I was hoping for the best and that is what I got. This pad has very generous, deep corners for an easy fit on my high mattress - a pleasant surprise! It is made in America and machine washable; SO well made.
For those wondering why a lambswool cover is desirable, it's because it keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. I especially wanted one because I have a Memory Foam bed which tends to hold body heat. I had been using a wool blanket for a buffer between the sheet and the mattress but now I have this lambswool pad. I took it on a maiden voyage last night and was delighted with the new comfort. I am thrilled with this purchase.
I wouldn't want to be sleeping without it now. It does take the pressure off of my arthritic joints, and makes the temperature of the bed not too cold, not too hot JUST RIGHT. It wasn't advertised as being waterproof.. so I have no comment as to that issue.. I washed it -perfect- (air dried) in dryer and laid it out to finish drying. The only thing that puzzled me was the backing... I'm guessing that it was a necessary application to keep it together. Overall, to me, this is a BARGAIN if wool is what you're looking for at a price that's affordable.
our latex mattress is too darn hard for me, and my spouse sweats, and we needed a solution. the feather bed was too much fuss and too hot for both of us. the natural lambswool, though it doesn't seem substantial, is just enough cushion for my bones and wool is a natural way to wick away sweat and stabilize temperature year round, not just winter. it's machine washable (i use eucalan on the wool setting) and only takes a day to air dry. the wool does mat flat over time and still provides cushioning. we've had it about a year and are still happy with it.
Is this waterproof, or at least partially so? I am buying a new mattress and would like to insure against any wayward cat incidents...llilacs on Apr 23, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
yes, I even washed it in delicate with cold water and hanged it to dry.grunona on Apr 26, 2014
I would not wash this item as it does not have a backing to prevent the wool from coming off the backing that it is woven into. It will just slip off the backing as others like this have done for me. Which is why I am not going to wash it.perfectlypeg on May 2, 2014
It is a little bit stinky. Maybe a lot stinkycamwma on May 29, 2014
I have been in search of a pad that adds firmness to our too soft mattress. I have tried numerous memory foam toppers and pads, none of them have added the firmness that is needed. What should I expect with this pad?april291 on Feb 7, 2014Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Hello april291, thank you for your inquiry! This mattress pad does not have a high enough density if you are looking for firmness. However, item number 15354790 would provide the firmness you would want. I hope this helps. Happy shopping! overstockcustomercare1 on Feb 21, 2014
Softness. You might want to look for a high ILD latex pad.?. Latex seems to feel like it pushes up.bigj6360 on Mar 18, 2014
Hello hambo, Thank you for your inquiry! The wool pad is 21.7 ounces/square yard, or 49.5 oz./lineal yard. I hope this helps! Happy shopping!overstockcustomercare1 on Nov 19, 2013
Some of the reviews state this product has a polyester backing, but that is not in the description...only states the skirt is poly/cotton. Is there any sort of backing that is not wool?lrachel1 on Oct 8, 2013Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
Thank you for contacting us lrachel1. The top of the pad is wool, and the bottom of the pad (the part of the pad that lays against the mattress) is polyester.

According to the manufacturer''s representative "We do not treat it with any chemicals or fire retardants. However, the wool fiber supplier has to treat the fiber with a Chloride/Resin treatment to make it a ''washable wool'', which is done before we get it and turn it into fabric."overstockcustomercare1 on Sep 21, 2012
This feels like it has a starch of some kind on it. The wool seems very smooth anyway.gogomeisha on Mar 19, 2013
IF wool clothing irritates my skin, will this pad do so also? Is there a cotton layer over the wool to prevent direct contact? I am hoping that between a cotton layer and the bedsheets this would prevent itchy skin problems.tnels on Sep 19, 2012Please enter a valid question.Answer This Question
There is no cotton layer. You can wear a tee-shirt or other cotton item under it, however.overstockcustomercare1 on Sep 19, 2012
No irritation so far with mine. (Eight months now.)gogomeisha on Mar 19, 2013
