I received this from a friend who bought this one almost two years ago and she loved it. But this time the difference in quality was painfully obvious! The down feathers are only a 3rd of what hers has, yet they are both the same. Since the labels on both say "75% Down", it can only mean that the down is immature and doesn't hold as much air. But it was the other label that said "Made in China on mine which really disappointed us! The same comforter she bought from two years ago is made in the USA. It wasn't just that the down fill was less but each square had a different amount and three squares had almost no down feathers in them. Northern Nights must have cut their costs here and sadly it shows! This is not a medium warmth comforter but rather a light one. The cotton material is good and well stitched so that is why I gave it two stars. But if you are wanting a comforter for warm nights in a cold winter, you have to go for the higher priced Hungarian Down and invest in a higher thread count as well. Since "Siberian Down" doesn't actually come from the migratory geese there, which are on the International Endangered Species list, I realize it's a sellers gimmick. I'm willing to spend $300+ for a good down feather comforter and will keep my eyes on what sales Overstock has coming.
I was nicely surprised by the color and size. The colored pattern is actually a bonus and looks much softer than the photo. The fill is as stated and for warmth it certainly is more than adequate for our Canadian winters here in Southern Ontario. I only wish that the thread count of the comforter had been higher so that the odd feather doesn't keep coming out. Aside from that, it is very well made and a good investment for quality bedding!.
This duvet arrived flat and I did fluff it. I allowed it three days to puff up. It didn't! I shook the individual layers and several squares had almost no feathers in them! It said NORTHERN NIGHTS and they're known for quality but when I saw the label "MADE IN CHINA", my heart sank. It isn't a "medium warmth " as indicated but rather a light one. Despite shaking it and doing the squares individually it has remained rather thin! I didn't care too much about the color as we always have our duvets inside covers. There also was no odor but for winter use to stay warm it's too thin here. Sad that the company cut costs like this as it's hard to afford a down duvet. I gave it to a friend in Dallas who is allergic to feathers. So he's passed it on. Hypoallergenic obviously doesn't mean no allergies to feathers!
The comforter is a beautiful color and the pattern is nice. The comforter itself is fluffy and very inviting. However, the manufacturer states that you should protect the comforter with a duvet. This would cover the beautiful cold and the pattern. So I put it on the bed without a duvet and after two days there were two small tears in the duvet. I was very upset. I checked Overstock.com's return policy which states that the item must not have been used and comes back in original packing. This was not an option, so I was stuck with the comforter. I ended up sewing the tears together, and I am continuing to use it. The manufacturer states also not to lay on the top of the comforter to keep the loft high. The comforter though light is warm. Would love it if it had not ripped!
initially i wasn't thrilled with the color. I decided to put it on my bed & give it a try. I ended up loving it. very comfy & it certainly is oversized. my husband never comments on the bedding, but he said how much he loves this comforter. I would have given it 5 stars except for the color.
This was such an amazing price on this comforter! For less that sixty dollars! The weight equivalent to a three hundred dollar one. The pattern is not unattractive and the other side is solid. Besides that is what duvet covers are for right? I would recommend this 100%!
I needed to replace a very old and worn out Down comforter.I went to Overstock and found this oversized down made by Northerlights. It arrived in about a week. The thread count was only 300 but I was pleasantly surprised by how soft and smooth it was to the touch.Upon removing it from the box it was quite flat but that was expected with shipping. I fluffed it in the air and in just a few hours it had filled out beautifully! The first night I slept under it, I felt like I was a child again, sleeping in the wonderful down beds of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. There was no odor I could detect and just a few stray tiny down feathers flew about as it was unpacked. I highly recommend this high quality down comforter! There isn't one thing I'd want to change about it and that includes the price, you cannot do any better!
I spent a lot of time carefully choosing the best goose down comforter for my money ,thankfully this was the wisest choice. My room average temperature stays in the low sixties, due to not having central heat. This kept me so warm, I didn't need to wear my long sleeve p.j. top.I held the blanket up to the light and each pocket is 3/4 full of down. I live in Oregon and believe it's too warm for year round use, but will keep me toasty for winter and fall. The cover has a sheen to it and appears to have a thread count of at least 300.The color is accurate to picture, and attractive ,but I will still use a duvet to keep from having to wash it too often. To prevent it from slipping around in the duvet I turned the duvet inside out and secured the blanket to the corners with small metal clips I bought at Office Depot. This seems to do the trick. Don't spend too much more time agonizing over which comforter to buy, this one is it.
My expectations of this product were tempered by the realization that the price is more than reasonable for a quality down comforter. I was more than pleasantly surprised. It may not be something you might find in a high end, 5 star hotel or resort but it is still a fantastic unit. All that needs to be said is said in these words "Made in the USA" (Seattle, WA). Love it and would recommend it to anyone asking !
I love my new comforter, the print matched the picture online exactly and it is just warm enough. The only down side is that it is a dry clean only comforter and I have pets that like to climb up on the bed so I either have to deal with pet fur/smell or spend lots of money dry cleaning.
Wow, what a surprise. Comforter well made and very pleased with the solid yellow cover and reversible print. Fluffed up nicely after one day. Have not used yet but expect will be warm as feathers well distributed. No feathers were poking thru upon delivery. Very happy with this item and would order another if we needed one. Also no smell noted but aired out anyway overnight before putting away.
