We purchased a mid-range, store-brand memory foam mattress from a local dealer for our teenager, because we weren't willing to shell out thousands for a TempurPedic like my husband and I have. The one they delivered turned out to be much firmer than the one we laid on at the store, and because she only weighs 110 pounds, it never began to "give" after a year. So, we purchased this two-inch topper and, voila!, her too-firm bed is now dreamy. It does have a bit of a plastic odor that diminishes over time (think weeks, not days), but for the price, it was an excellent solution. I can highly recommend this mattress topper.
My son's Tempurpedic mattress was too hard. Now he's sleeping happily with the added comfort of the Serta Foam Mattress Topper.
****BEFORE I GET INTO MY STORY LET ME JUST SAY IF YOU DONT LIKE SOFT BEDS THIS MIGHT NOT BE FOR YOU THAT BEING SAID I DIDN'T UNTIL I USED THIS TOPPER.*** I recently began to develop back and neck problems when i sleep so i decided to purchase a Temper-pedic mattress. I knew i had a 90 day free trail so i said why not. Although the bed did fix my back pain i was willing to give it back based off the price being so DAMN expensive. When i returned the bed all i had to sleep on was a futon bed which brought back some of the back pain and after i bought this 4" Serta memory foam topper I can say i am once again back pain free!!! so just to summarize i had the same pain relief from my mattress topper on a crappy futon bed as I did from the temper-pedic mattress. You do the math! happy dreams!
The comfort Dreams Mem Cool Memory Foam Mattress Topper was very well worth buying. We didn't notice any bad odors once the topper was opened and expanded. I have used several of these on different beds. I do recommend putting a snug fitting mattress protector or pad with full elastic sides over the topper to help keep it in place. For my granddaughter I used the Natural Comfort Waterproof Mattress Protector and it worked very well. Any matress pad with well fitting elastic sides works OK. The 4 lb density seemed a little too firm to me, and also for my granddaughter, but I am a light wieght at 120 lbs. for men and others with a little heaver body weight, it may be preferred. The 3 lb density is very luxurious feeling, however it may seem a little too soft to many people. I would not recommend greater than 4 lb or less than 3 lb density with at least a 3 inch thickness The thicker, the better. .Also it depends on how firm of a mattress you are placing the topper on as to what will be the most comfortable. These toppers do eventually loose thier comfort level and need to be replaced about every 5 years for ultimate comfort. Some people complain of mem. foam mattresses to hold heat in an feel too hot. I did not find this to be a problem with the "Mem Cool" mattress topper, but using a thin cotton mattress pad over the mattress topper may help, and I have never found any negatives in using a mattress pad over the topper. It does help protect the topper, keeps it clean, and in place.
My 91 year old aunt has had two or three back surgeris and wanted me to find a topper for her Memory Foam mattress she and her husband bought a few years ago. I told her I was interested in buying a egg crate foam matress similar to one I bought for a mattress I thought was to firm. I purchased a another topper in a local store and I had been disappointed because it was thick enough and was not the egg crate type. I spent a couple of days trying to find one over the internet and selected Overstock's Queen size 4 inch Memory Foam. We both think the topper is great. As a result of seeing her topper three additional toppers have been ordered by her family members.
Made a great mattress even better! Instead of buying a overpriced Tempur-pedic mattress, we started with a low cost memory foam mattress off ebay and added this lost cost topper and ended up with a dream bed for not too much jingle!
I've had several Visco memory foam mattresses on several beds and am never disappointed. It seems the Visco surface stays soft but still is sturdy for long time. Anita D.
A few months ago my husband and I purchased a Tempur-Pedic mattress which caused my hips to start hurting -- I am a side sleeper, and this mattress is just a bit too firm for me. To soften the mattress I purchased this mattress topper, and am so happy that I did. It is extremely comfortable, my hips have stopped hurting, and I hardly toss and turn at all now. We let it air out on top of another bed for a few days once we received it, so odor was not a problem. It has not been too hot for us either. I am delighted with it!
It is unbelievable how a pillow topper can magically improve a mattress. I bought this for our guest bed and now I'd rather sleep on that bed instead of our brand new $5k tempur pedic. UGH!
