  When saying waterproof it is literal. Means that the backing of the fabric is plastic. I was "assuming" that the fabric would be waterproof. Repels water absorption. If you were looking for something that would protect your mattress from bed wetting, this would be perfect. But for general mattress protection such as sweat and perspiration this is not the ideal mattress protector. To noisy while moving around while sleeping. Crunchy sound. I am now having to buy a different type WITHOUT plastic attached to it.

  This mattress cover seemed as though it was mostly paper! Where was the cotton thin padding on the top that used to be there. How about having the elastisized sides being made of something other than a paper product. Returning it would have cost one third of the price so we are stuck! Basically don't bother with this item.
