Mattress Pads

Comfortable bedding makes getting to sleep much easier, and that's why a well-made bed includes everything from firm pillows and warm blankets to supportive mattress pads. A mattress pad may not be the first item that comes to mind when you're shopping for bedding, but the right one can provide the extra comfort necessary for a good night's sleep.
Mattress pads have two main purposes: to protect and to cushion. If you want one product to serve both purposes, look for a padded cover that completely envelops the mattress. It will add extra cushioning to your bed and help keep the mattress clean. Most of these pads are machine washable, and many are hypoallergenic, protecting you and your family from common irritants. Waterproof mattress pads are essential for children's beds. Protective mattress covers lie between the mattress and the fitted sheet, so they aren't very thick. If you want a thicker layer, you'll need a pad that sits atop the bed.
Thick mattress toppers include both traditional featherbeds and modern designs made of foam. A featherbed or goose down topper makes your bed softer and warmer. Choose one with a baffle-box design; the filling won't shift around as much and the topper will stay fluffy. Some toppers have a down-alternative filling that is better for allergy sufferers than down and feathers. While a featherbed style is soft, it doesn't provide much support for the body and is best paired with a firm mattress. You can also get a good foundation for sleep with a memory foam mattress pad.
Memory foam is an amazing material that molds to the body, eliminating the pressure points that cause morning aches and pains. The material then returns to its original shape, ready for your next nap. Memory foam toppers can be as thin as 1.5 inches or as thick as 10 to 12 inches; most pads are 2.5- to 5-inches thick. Although most sleepers enjoy the warmth of memory foam, some prefer gel memory foam, which offers the same support as memory foam products, but is much cooler.

This plush mattress pad was really well made, however, I ultimately returned it as the waterproof layer made too much of a 'crinkly' noise. It also retains a lot of heat making for a very hot night's sleep. Overstock made the return process extremely easy.

The mattress pad is awesome! Like sleeping on a cloud. I think it would perk up even a crappy mattress.

excellent minimalist solution to too-hard mattress

our latex mattress is too darn hard for me, and my spouse sweats, and we needed a solution. the feather bed was too much fuss and too hot for both of us. the natural lambswool, though it doesn't seem substantial, is just enough cushion for my bones and wool is a natural way to wick away sweat and stabilize temperature year round, not just winter. it's machine washable (i use eucalan on the wool setting) and only takes a day to air dry. the wool does mat flat over time and still provides cushioning. we've had it about a year and are still happy with it.

  • Egyptian Cotton Mattress Pad!

I love the mattress Pad! It is very soft & cushy! But in trying to get the corners in place, one of the sides tore a little. It is not very bad, but thought it could have been made of a little stronger fabric!

Good quality for the price. I do not notice if its any "cooler" to sleep with on the bed, and I have not washed it yet, either. I do feel its well made and comfortable to sleep on.
