It's very nice and washed well, but OMG it STINKS!!!! I washed it twice and the chemical smell is overwhelming! It's hanging outside now in the hopes that it eventually stops smelling so terrible. It made my whole house smell awful as soon as I opened the package. I don't understand why fabric would smell so bad. Wished I maybe spent more and got something that didn't smell like this. I don't often write reviews, but felt I had to in this case.
I ordered two twins in burgundy. The colors are more muted than in the pictures. They are also less distinct than the pictures show. The burgundy is sort of a watered down burgundy. The greens are also a soft color. They are excellent quality and go with my rug, which has coordinating touches of lavender to go with this burgundy. It definitely is not a deep red.
Unfortunately the set looked nice - but it was filled with a moldy/mildew smell that did NOT dissipate. Returned for another and asked that it be QA'd prior to sending. They didn't - same moldy/mildew in 2nd set. Returning this one as well.
After reading some of the reviews I was pleasantly surprised. My first concern was the odor that everyone talked about. It smelled like the plastic it arrived in. I washed it without any special effort and it smelled fresh and clean. It is soft and the colors are pretty...I ordered the green one. It is exactly what I need. We have a dog that sleeps with us so I like the idea that I didn't spend a lot of money but we still have a pretty bed. I also like the idea of being able to wash it without the bulk of a comforter. For the price the quality is good.
I thought I'd try this set in spite of the majority of other review warnings. Well, I should have trusted what they said. I don't even know how to describe the awful smell of this fabric. I've never encountered such a thing before and cannot imagine what was used in production to cause it. It was still very noticeable after laundering. Over several weeks time, the odor has mostly dissipated, but what have we been exposed to? The pattern and soft colors of this set are pretty with average quality of construction, but I would NEVER RECOMMEND unless you're attracted to strong musty chemical smells.
The fabric has been treated with a chemical or it has been in the plastic bag for so long it has developed mold. It not only reeked on its own - the whole house started to smell. I quickly got it outside, and threw it away. I should've read the reviews b4 I bought it. I didn't even want to handle it long enough to send it back. My family's health is worth more than ***or whatever I paid for it.
After reading other negative reviews I bought the duvet cover anyway...the colors and pattern were exactly what I was looking for! Yes, the product arrives with a chemical smell but nothing that a good washing couldn't resolve. I'm very happy with it!
I was looking for a value priced duvet set for a guest bedroom and this was the perfect choice. I do agree with other reviewers that it had a distinct musty order when opened initially. A washing with some vinegar and then with a detergeant and air-drying eliminated that. Considering it was the price, pattern and colors I needed, I did not mind the trouble to launder it.
The smell of the duvet set was a mix between really strong dye and mold/mildew. I immediately washed the set in cold water and the smell is gone, thankfully! It fits on my queen duvet perfectly and I can tell we are going to enjoy it! The only other thing was that one of the shams edges was the end of the fabric....the pattern just ran off and it was white. I can hide this, but the packaging did not note that this was a second product, so just watch out for that. Still, great price for a nice set....even with those issues.
Out of the bag, the quality and appearance of the duvet was great, but the odor was unbearable. We had to wash the set 4 times, give it a soak in vinegar solution and leave it outside airing out for over a week. I don't know what kind of chemical smell it was, but it was potent, and probably not good for you. We even had to run a cleaning cycle on the washer after the first round of washing the duvet.
This is a great duvet! I like the 300 thread count because it's heavy enough but still soft. I've had 600 count sheets and they are still stiff feeling after years of washing. I got the green/taupe/blue tone and it's gorgeous, and what a great idea to have stripes on the reverse so I can change the look now and then! I would buy this again. Love Overstock quality and prices!!
I don't now what ya'll are talking about wrt to the smell... yeah it smelled like it had been chemically processed but it wasn't THAT bad and it definitely washed out with one wash. I'm really happy with the sets (I bought two sets) and I use them on a king bed so that my husband and I can have our own blankets... euro style. Liked them enough that I ordered another two sets in the burgundy (I got the green originally) and I'll treat them like sheets... trade them out, etc. every week.
We just received these duvet covers and like the look & feel of them. (Much nicer than the more expensive "**** *****" brand we ordered previously & returned.) However, the "proof" of their quality will be in the use and washing over time. So, no advice on that score.
