I have been looking to purchase a down comforter for about 6 months. I finally purchased this comforter about 2 weeks ago and have been absolutely thrilled with every aspect of it. The baffle box is true and there is no shifting of down. The fabric is soft and looks nice even with out a duvet cover! Directly out of the box there was no smell, and within a few days it really started to fluff up. This is a great value with terrific quality! I would reccomend this product to ANYONE in search of a down comforter!
I just got this comforter yesterday, and it is better than I expected. It is light, lofty and fills my silk duvet perfectly. I have owned several high quality down comforters, and this is one of the best. Top it off with 2 day shipping and that wonderful "O" customer service, and what you have is sheer perfection. Purchase with confidence!
The down comforter I received was not as advertised, in short, if you don't want to read the full review: 1. It's not 100% down--it's "minimum" 75% down and not white goose down 2. It does not have a fill power of 650--it's 550 3. It's by Royal Velvet 4. It does not have a 330 TC cotton cover--it's a 275 TC cover 5. I got the Queen, which is advertised as having 40 oz. of down--it's actually 28 oz. 6. The "baffle box" construction is only for aesthetics--there were empty channels and the "down" was all over the place, but not the most important--the middle. Now, the story: I received the shipment 3 days after I placed the order (great service) but was disappointed to find a light to medium weight down comforter, which was not my intention as the ad stated the comforter had a 650 fill count--I was looking for heavy weight comforters. The "baffle box" construction was a joke as well since I held up the comforter to the light and saw that none of the fill was in its place, some channels were empty, others were filled with what I would describe as fiber fill, not down at all. There is some down in there, but not much. The brand name is Royal Velvet and it had light blue piping around the edges and the brand was embroidered near the bottom of the comforter. The label on the comforter read "minimum 75% down" and where it originally stated "white goose down", the "white goose" was whited-out. I tried it for one night and it didn't even keep me warm...that's one night in California, where it doesn't even get THAT cold compared to other places (it was in the 50's). Thinking that Overstock had sent me the wrong item, I called them and explained the situation. I was told I indeed got the wrong item and they would send out replacements (I bought 2). I received those 3 days later but they were the SAME thing. I sent them back. NONE of the 4 comforters I received had any packaging information on them--you know, the information on the package, inside the plastic bag that tells you the item specifics. That's pretty fishy and now I understand why. I did some research on the Royal Velvet product line and found that this comforter is from their Legacy collection with a 275 thread count cotton cover, 550 fill power, and the Queen size has a 28 oz. fill--NOT what's advertised here, at 330 TC cover, 650 fill power, 40 oz. down. Overall, Overstock's service was great--but the quality of this item is NOT as advertised. I'm very disappointed to be mislead. Shame on Overstock for advertising this product as better than what it really is!
I look at our as being down fanatics. My 2 daughters each have blankets on thier beds and we also use one on the guest bed. The down comforter we used previouslyon our bed, I had custom ordered, and made an "investment" in that purchase. We were happy with that blanket, but it was hungarian down. The Siberian down feels completely different. So lightweight, like a cloud draped over your body. I will never again go back to any other down. If I had any complaints on this comforter it would be that the fabric could be a bit softer, I am very spoiled though and at this price you would never find anything of the same quality. By the way to all the complaints about shifting down, if you give your comforter a hard shake, about once a week. The feathers will automatically reposition themselves. This is required when owning down products.
I have had this duvet for over a year now. It's very warm and cozy. I guess for the price I paid it's a good deal. Here are the shortcomings: 1. It sheds a lot. 2. It bunches up. One side is always thicker than the other. 3. It's quite heavy. 4. It has a funky feather/down smell that won't go away but it's not too bad. It hasn't bothered me enough to want to switch to another duvet. It's not the best duvet I've had but it's good enough and keeps me warm at night.
This is a pretty decent comforter. I bought it because I thought it was Siberian goose down (which is suppose to be one of the best, if not THE best down there is) as well as for the high TC and fill power. This comforter IS pretty fluffy. If you leave it spread it on your bed for a day or two untouched, it fluffs to a good inch high and is very warm at night. However, NOWHERE in the packaging does it say who made this comforter, the TC or fill power. I don't know if this is even 50 oz of down! (the consumer tag says 75 percent down...) There are other down comforters for sale here whose pictures look EXACTLY like this comforters... I don't know if this is deceptive marketing, but I want proof that what I purchased was what overstock was selling, and I didn't get that.
I have now owned this comforter for a year and a half. When I received this comforter I was very pleased but looks can be deceiving. We have had the comforter in a duvee cover the entire time. After about 6 month the feathers migrated to the outer edges. I have been a professional dry cleaner for 23 years and this only occures in very poor quality down comforters. Once the feathers migrate to the outer edges there is very little to be done. You get what you pay for . I now have to purchase a replacement if I want to stay warm but I am purchasing a NAME BRAND that will back their product for its life expectancy. Speaking as a professional dry cleaner buyer beware!
This is my first down blanket so I wouldn't know if it really is a 650 fill power. Regardless, it keeps me warm enough. One problem is that the down does not seem to be evenly distributed. When you look through it under the light, you could see empty spaces within some areas. Also, I wouldn't know if other down comforters do this, but there are a few pieces of down leaking through the seams. A duvet cover has been a good solution to this problem. Shipping was the only other problem. It took 12 days for delivery since the day I ordered it. Overall, I think this product's value is very good for the price. However, I don't think it's worth the full retail value.
I read the reviews of every comforter on this site and debated between this one and a much more expensive one. The quality is better than I expected for the price. There was no odor when I opened it and it fluffed up nicely--plenty warm for a room at about 60 degrees. My only complaint is that the twin size costs the same as full. The price is still better than other places, but it seems odd.
This feather down comforter is perfect for me! I'm a Floridian and am able to use it throughout the year. It keeps me warm during the cold evenings, but not sweating during the hot ones. No feathers leaking, no smell, quality fabric, great buy! I would purchase this product again in the future.
I did a lot of research on down comforters before purchasing one. Overstock has the best bargains for this from what I've seen. The comforter is contructed in baffle box style which keeps the down from shifting as much (which is the box style), the baffle comes from the "walls" that are used to connect the top and bottom fabric to allow the down to rise. The thread count is good, though not as important in my opinion since you should be using a duvet cover to protect your comforter (which should never go in the washer, dry clean only once a year). The fill power is good enough to keep me warm in the Virginia winters, but light enough to be able to use in at least the spring and fall I hope. It is also 75% down (which is the warmest and softest part of fowl - no quills). Geese down is better quality than duck from what I read. It didn't smell and it definitely fluffs back up after letting it air (I was a little concerned when I first took it out of the packaging but the instructions stated this was to be expected). The only thing is the Siberian label they give the comforter. This is a marketing tactic. It is too cold to farm geese in Siberia and be able to make a living out of it. From what I've read, most "Siberian" goose down comes from Europe. There does exist a Siberian goose, but it is a migratory bird that is protected. I hear that the best white goose down comes from Hungary and Poland.
I just got this in the mail today and will promptly be sending it back for one reason- the baffling is simply inadequate. Its hard to explain, but rather than all four sides of the boxes being sewn together, there are big random gaps in the stitching. It makes all the down fall through the boxes and down to the ends of the comforter; no down in the middle. I bought this comforter to replace my current one- which also has down that does not stay in place. I thought because this one had an original price that was so expensive perhaps the construction might be better. Nope.
I bought three of these comforters, as gifts to various members in my family. It looked like a bargain, considering they advertised fill power of 650. Upon receiving the items, although the fabric is soft, and looks nice, the fill power is not nearly close to 650, maybe not 500. It just feels cheap. I opened two of them, fluffed them occasionally, let them sit for two days, turned them around. The fill power is not there, I regret to say. I have two other down comforters purchased years ago, one at 525 and the other 550 fill power, and my old comforters are almost twice as thick as these three I just purchased. My advice would be to avoid this brand, there is no way they have the amount of down advertised. Looked like a bargain on paper, but the quality is just not there. Very deceiving.
i bought this comforter last year, and thought it was a pretty good deal at the time of purchase (high fill power, high thread count, etc.). however, after having used it a year, i have to say that while the fabric looks nice, it is just not that warm. the reason is that this comforter doesn't appear to be a true baffle box construction. the filling has bunched up at the edges of the comforter, leaving big gaps in the middle and top, where it counts. so every month i'm finding myself flipping this thing over to try to get the filling to move the other direction. this in itself is a hassle. if i were to do it all over again, i'd look for one with a true baffle box construction.
appearance (4): it is not as pure white as it shows in the picture: you will see the dark down feather shades. However I put it in a duvet cover to keep it clean anyway, so it does not bother me. smell (4): It did not have any odor even when I just pulled it out of the bag. It does have a nice new smell though. softness & weight (3.5): it is very soft, but feels a little heavy (after all it has 40 oz of down). value: (3): very warm and soft but a little heavy. The down indeed tend to fall to the edge and the so-called double stitch or box design can only do so much to prevent the feather from shifting. Also the tag does say 'OVER 80% down' so it is not actually a 100% down comforter as I thought it would be given the price. I might have chosen a lighter comforter with down alternative that is just as soft & fluffy but priced much less.
I have had several down comforters over the years and this one is by far the best. This high quality comforter was fully fluffed up in about a day. It had no odor other than that "new" smell, and that only lasted a day. The down fill is evenly distributed without those "empty spots" that the lesser ones typically have. The feel is very soft and warm. It is well put together. There are no down "escapees" that sometimes get past the fabric that I have seen in other comforters. I can confidently say that this is the BEST value, not only for the price, but for the the quality. You will be happy!! :-)
I have had this for a couple of weeks now and "WOW" is all I can say. It fluffed right up the first day and has remained that way since. I put it in a duvet cover and it still is not heavy at all. Within a couple of minutes of getting in bed the temperature is just perfect and remains that way all night. No throwing off the covers to cool off and back on again when I get cold. This comforter stays put all night.........I hate when the alarm goes off. The price is far below what this comforter is worth!!!
Had this comforter for a year and kept me very warm! Very soft and fluffy. However two cons: 1. Sheds feathers like crazy. Every morning I woke up looking like I picked a fight with a chicken. The feathers just flew everywhere and got onto my clothes, hair, everything..it was very annoying. (i think i developed allergies) 2. the comforter shifts...one end would always be thicker than the other. I would switch the ends around and a month later the other end is fatter than the front end. Bad construction! However, this comforter kept me very warm and comfortable through the cold NY nights. I would recommend this to anyone if they don't mind feathers shedding and want a soft comforter.
I bought this comforter to replace our old comforter a couple months back. First impression: It was beautiful but flat and had a little bit of an odor. I sprayed it lightly with fabreeze on both sides and let it air out for a few hours, but thought it still looked pretty flat. Then, after a few more days airing and nightly use we decided it was to warm, our old comforter was pretty empty of feathers. Now, a couple months later, I am completely in love with this comforter. It is lofty, soft, warm and very cozy. I absolutely love curling up in bed at night with it lightly covering me. It is light, yet heavy enough to fall around you and cover you completely. Only takes a few minutes for you to go from cold to warm and comfy. I would recommend this to anyone in the market for a good value for a great comforter. I would never want to go back to a lesser TC or Fillpower after having this beautiful comforter. I do agree if you live in a cold climate area you might consider a higher fill power, this is great for the climate here in KS, pretty mild. It kept us plenty warm for our winters and not too hot for our blazing summers.
