Had I not experienced a family emergency when two 89 year old parents wound up hospitalized 24 hours apart (note my screen name), I would have sent these back. Since the box from Overstock sat on a shelf for a month before I remembered it, I accepted they were staying.
While the description of these sheets states they are a sateen finish, I disagree strongly .These sheets have rich color and a very thick, canvas-like feel, which I initially hated. I also found the fitted sheet to be a very tight fit for my queen mattress (pillow top on both sides, the description states the fitted sheet will fit up to 16 inches, so that is my fault). I thought a couple of washes might loosen them up, but no. Things got more interesting... the side hems of the top sheet rolled up 4x on each side, costing me about 5 inches in width of coverage. I've been laundering sheets for 30 years and never ran across this before, so I tried line drying the top sheet with clothes pins on the hems at 4 inch intervals. As soon as the clothes pins came off the hems rolled up like salami slices on an antipasto. O.K.; out comes the ironing board (I'm really loving these sheets now). After steam pressing one side hem open, I was not amused to find the hem had rolled back up as I went along to the next section, presumably as it cooled. I also found dye streaks where the sheets had permanently creased before I got them.
I have now fought these sheets for more than a year and I am done with them. They will now be very nice drop cloths. As for Overstock itself, I have bought many linen items here with great satisfaction, and will be replacing these sheets today from this site.
To summarize.. if you like labor intensive linens, these are the sheets for you.
