A Perfect Comforter
from Los Angeles,  Oct 31, 2006

I bought the king size comforter and love it. The construction is great quality with good stitching all around. The piping is done just right and give it a perfect look if you were to use it w/o a duvet. The fabric is soft and smooth like 700 tc should be, and the baffle design keeps the down evenly distributed. The size is just right; it hangs over the sides about 8 inches and the foot about 6 inches. I bought a duvet to keep the comforter crisp white and protected as I have an indoor/outdoor cat who sleeps inside and brings in a yard full of dirt at the end of the day and it fit perfectly. I actually bought the duvet 2 inches narrower than the comforter and it fills it out perfectly with no excess fabric on any edge. Perfect! The weight is perfect as well. You don't feel as though it's so heavy you can't move, but you don't feel like you're laying under some inferior light-weight summer throw either. A great purchase.

Excellent Comforter
 from Pennsylvania,  Apr 13, 2007

I reviewed a lot of comforters on this site before selecting this one & VERY glad that I did. This goose down comforter is well worth the money. It is very, very comfy & QUITE warm, won't need more then this on your bed! The quality of the material is great, very soft, just snuggle right up. I purchased the king for a queen sized bed & it is very plentiful in size, would fit a king bed just fine. If you purchase this one you will Enjoy!

Great buy
from Los Angeles, Cal.,  Sep 23, 2010

I received my comforter and, to my dismay, it was not the one I ordered. I looked up the return policy and the comforter was not returnable. I was sure I just got scammed and now had a cheap comforter I didn't want and was out the cash which I can ill afford. Sad story, but with a happy ending (no double meaning intended here). I called the Overstock support lady and gave her the sad details. She took immediate action. She emailed me a return label, asked me to return the item cost free, reprocessed my comforter order, and I got the new one in only a few days. It was light years better than the one I was sent, and I am a very pleased customer. So do not despair if you get an error on your order. The process is complex and mistakes can be made. Just give the folks at Overstock a call and they will quickly fix things up. A note about comforters. I have had two before, one synthetic and one down. The down was superior in all respects, so I needed a new one after my neighbor's cat destroyed my old one. I ordered this one to get the best I could manage on my tight budget. The first one i received was very low quality. The cover was maybe 200 or so thread count, was stiff and heavy, and the down fill was uneven and minimal. How do I verify the thread count (no TC on the tag) or what it was filled with (the attached tag said 'down filled' with minimum 75% down. So I needed a little education on comforters. The web gave me lots of info, but my visit to Macy's gave me much more. I checked out several different thread count covers at prices from low to maximum (close to $1000), and quickly got to know what better TC ones felt like. The higher numbers had a soft, very light, silky feel, and the lower ones more like high quality burlap. The attached tag is all I had to go on, but these are deceptive and uninformative. Down fill tags, for all price ranges, say it must be at least 75% down. This only attempts to keep the company honest to some degree, but is found on the best ones that Macy's carries as well as the lowest price ones. So no help there. But the fill is another story. On the duck down ones the tag states 'down filled', but the goose down ones all say 'white goose down'. There is no mention on the tag of the type of goose down. This is true even on the ones at Macy's that are 100% Hungarian white goose down with sky high prices to match. But a good feel of one of the pockets of down will tell the rest of the story. The first one I got felt soft enough but there were spots where I could feel, with lots of tight pinching, small harder bits. The new one I received (and the best at Macy's) was very soft and fluffy and hard bit free. So, for the price, this is an excellent buy IMHO. The cover is very soft and light and well stitched; the goose down fill is even and very fluffy with no hard bits, and the overall weight is light and airy, about half the weight of the first one. Just a lovely comforter you (and I) can enjoy for many years for sure. So go ahead and buy with confidence at Overstock.com. They'll do their best to make things right if you're not happy with your purchase. And take a trip to the Macy's bedding department.

Box design does NOT stay together
 from NC,  Nov 19, 2006

I've just started using this comforter with the cooler weather and learned very quickly that the down floats to the side edges just like all the other cheap brands. The stitching with the box design isn't all the way thru or it's just come loose and in the middle you end up with litle down - a HUGE disappointment for such an expensive item.

Is this really fully filled with down?
from Boston, MA,  Jan 4, 2008

The comforter is beautiful looking and the fabric quality appears to be excellent. However, I really doubt that the comforter is fully filled with down. There are many flat spots and the down shifts around constantly. It may be what it promises to be, but it seems unlikely. How does one prove its truly fully filled with the amount of down it promises? Good question!

Definitely not 650 fill power
 from California,  Jul 19, 2006

I decided on this one mainly because of the fill power. I like my down comforters to look full and I like being able to see the box stich. The thread count was just an added bonus. After it arrived I could tell that I wasn't getting what I thought just by looking at the bag. After pulling it out and shaking and fluffing it did not puff out as I had hoped. There are some squares that did fill up nicely, but many of the others are quite flat. The fabric quality is nice and it definitely has a smell, but I'm sure that will go away. If you are not looking for an extremely fluffy comforter this might be the one for you. Ratings: Appearance, based on overall look with some boxes looking much fuller than others. Comfort, based on the fact that I thought I was getting something much heavier. The fabric doesn't have any kind of design to it but does feel nice. I still think it was a good deal, but I originally thought I was getting a steal!

unthinkable construction!
from Doylestown, PA,  Nov 22, 2011

Since purchase, this has been one of the worst and most maddening purchases I have ever made - and it's not inexpensive! Here's the problem: each of the baffles has one corner where it is not stitched closed - an approximately six inch opening for the down to go wherever it pleases. This causes most of the down to fill up squares around the edges, leaving (quite literally) no down fill in the baffles over our bodies. I called Overstock and was told "it's supposed to be like that. Why is it, then, that I wake up cold, with almost all of the baffles over the sides and bottom of the bed packed tight, really tight, with down fill. Looks like the saddlebags of a camel caravan! Overstock suggest "fluffing occasionally" I have been fluffing, hitting with a yardstick daily, which is an absurd use of my time. It is the worst! If I had anything to do with management at Overstock, I would contact everyone who mistakenly purchased this comforter and offer a proper replacement or refund. But because that does not seem to be in the cards, Caveat Emptor - do not purchase this comforter!

Great at first
Anonymous  from Ohio,  Jul 7, 2006

This was a beautiful comforter for the first week, then all the filling bunched up at the bottom - of course, by the time we realized this was happening and couldn't be "fixed" the return policy had expired. The feel of the fabric is nice - but definately NOT worth the price!

Shifty down
 from California,  Nov 6, 2006

The comforter looks and feels lovely however the down shifts between baffles so that there's no down left on top of the bed and it's all in the baffles hanging down the sides of the bed! So no warmth for the sleepers. This is one comforter that I wish I had not purchased.

If you sit on the comforter, the down goes completely flat. I tried to "fluff" the comforter but that didn't work. The edges are nice and fluffy but the middle part has gotten flat in about a week! I am disappointed with my purchase. I think the flaw to this product is the box stitching, if it was superior the down would stay in place and not go flat; too bad that the other customers gave me a false sense of hope.

Be Patient With It -- Try it first!!
 from Denver , CO,  Apr 23, 2012

OK, I did all the research. For the price and the criteria, this duvet had all the right numbers. I was initally skeptical b/c of the mixed reviews, but for the price for pure down, I went ahead and purchased it. Got it fast, it was packed without labels in a plastic bag with no labels as other reviews had stated. I shook it to fluff it and let it sit. The smell was OK to me, just a bit like down stuff I've prevously had. (Now I've had it for three weeks and the smell is gone completely and I never washed it before use.) The fabric is very nice with a nice sheen to it, as other reviewers said. I fluffed it some more...Probably 3-4 of the boxes around the edges are a little low on down (felt like two sheets) and I was annoyed and was going to return it. All the rest of the fluffed up quite a bit. I was still not sure. So I decided to try it for a week before returning it. Thankfully, I was patient. It is amazing. To try it, I put it in a duvet cover and used just the duvet (no extra blanket) and a sheet to sleep under (basically, I took the extra blanket off my bed as I wanted to see how this thing really worked). It was amazing. I was very comfortable all night. I live in Denver, and so we experience all seasons and crazy temperature swings from day to day. I really love it and am very pleased with this purchase. It is actually a bit too warm in a way...if you are hot, you can just uncover your shoulders...I was worried that b/c those few boxes felt seemed empty, that it wouldn't be warm. This is definitely NOT a concern. This duvet will keep you plenty warm! I would but another one if I needed it. And the look is fluffy and nice. So don't worry about those few boxes that seem not as full as all the others, it isn't an issue in the look or the warmth. For the price, this is defintely worth it as other all down duvets will run you a grand easily. This is all soft down (no sharp feathers). Enjoy it :)

BEWARE!
from New Jersey,  Nov 21, 2011

I received this with NO product labeling whatsoever, so you have no idea whether or not it is in fact what you ordered. When I tried to put it in the duvet cover, it was over a foot too big. After speaking with Customer Service, they did send me a return label, but I was informed that the manufacturer sends them with out any labeling. Doesn't give me a lot of confidence.

Not as promised
from Laurel. MT,  Nov 21, 2011

This comforter was unevenly filled with down, not all of which was "white". Stitching did not secure baffle box to both top and bottom layers which would cause the down to shift. There weren't any labels to identify the product as HOTEL GRAND. I am returning this comforter and will be very disappointed if Overstock.com withholds the return shipping cost from my refund.

Good at first....
from SF, CA,  Apr 22, 2009

I am so disappointed, I've had this down comforter for a little over a year and at first it was awesome. It keeps you warm, through and through which is great BUT it sheds feathers ALL over the place after awhile. Also it bunches a lot and when you try and fluff it back up feathers keep coming out. I'd say it's not worth it and move on...

Exceptional Purchase
from Gainesville, GA,  Jun 24, 2008

I have owned 2-3 prior down comforters - most being "feather" down comforters. If you read this comment, please consider this - a "feather" down is different from a "goose" down. The feather down comforter is still warm to a degree, but you feel all the spines of the feathers when you squeeze any part of the comforter itself. The down comforter is the softest comforter you can buy, for it contains the softest part of the goose feather that is located closest to the animal's skin, which means there are no "spines" to feel when you squeeze the comforter - all you feel is soft feathers when you squeeze. Yes, the goose down comforter is the pricest one can buy, which is why I always chose the feather comforters instead. HOWEVER, when I saw the price of this goose (100%) down comforter, I jumped on the purchase. See for yourself- go to your local dept store at the mall and check out what these 100% GOOSE down feather blankets cost, then consider the fact that the percale count on this comforter is advertised at 700, (which means that the cotton fabric is weaved tighter, so feathers will not escape) not the typical 200-300 count (oftentimes feathers do escape) that they come in. When you receive this blanket via mail, it will indeed have a distint odor because IT IS NEW. Let it air out for 24 hrs, then all will be fine. I purchased a queen size comforter and it fits over the edges nicely on my queen bed. This is one of the finest goose down blankets I have located, and the price is good, including shipping charges! You cannot go wrong, this blanket is priced very well, so go ahead and buy it.

Very happy with purchase
Anonymous  from Wauwatosa. WI,  Oct 18, 2007

I bought this comforter for my Dad who is older and has poor circulation. I wanted him to have something both warm and light, and this comforter fit the bill. I researched comforters from various stores, and this one not only had more fill than the others (40 oz. versus their 28) but it was also at a cheaper price. Based on other reviews here I was expecting it to be pretty flat when it arrived. It didn't look like it had much fill because of the compression, but within a day the fill fluffed up and I realized what a nice comforter it was. It didn't have any initial odor as other people commented, and each section was equally filled with feathers as it should be. I would definitely purchase future comforters from here again, you won't find a better deal anywhere else!

It keeps me warm
from San Pedro, CA,  Jul 21, 2011

This comforter has survived a washing machine 4 times since I got in February. I had to wash it for different reasons and at first it seemed like the feathers would bunch up, but after fluffing it out it was perfectly fine. This comforter keeps me warm in the winter and it is heavy so becareful if it's not what you are looking for. I have gotten compliments from friends and family about this comforter. It's to the point where I just came back to this website to get one for me my mom( she hasn't stopped talking about how awesome my bedding is) but unfortunately its sold out. I recommend this comforter. Don't waste your time looking for something cheaper because you will only be losing your money. I am beyond happy I made the investment the first time around and did not end up looking for something better after a few months.

low on the down
from Boulder, Co,  Oct 12, 2010

This a medium light weight fill comforter good for bedroom temperatures around 60-75 degrees F. The down fill is by no means as fluffy as on the picture. The considerable heaviness for the comforter I attribute to the tightly woven encasing, which is soft to touch. I bought this to get us cozily through the Colorado winter but this will only serve for a few weeks out of the year. So unless your body runs hot it will be too cool. And btw, you would not use a down comforter in hot summer nights. always switch to thin wool or the like. But if your summers are on the overcast side this comforter will serve you long and well.

AWESOME COMFORTER!!! :)
from San Diego, CA,  Jun 5, 2008

Okay, I researched down comforters online, believe or not, for about 15-20 hours before I made my purchase! There is actually a lot to learn about down comforters. Which goose feathers are used, how much fill power is there, how the comforter is stitched together to keep the feathers in place, blah blah. After reading some reviews about this comforter, the one comment that I thought was most interesting was that once the comforter was taken out of the bag, it puffed up! And, low and behold--it's true!!! Mine puffed up A LOT! So it's super soft and puffy and warm! I LOVE this comforter!!! It is awesome! I chose it for many technical reasons: hungarian white goose feathers are top notch, 650 fill power, 50 oz. of feathers, etc. But at the end of the day...this is a fantastic comforable, snuggly comforter!!! Very happy about it! Thanks overstock!!!

A great buy!!!
from Laguna Beach, Ca,  May 27, 2008

I have purchased many $1,000+ comforters in the past... in addition, I grew up with grandparents that owned a feather barn in the Czech Republic... you can only imagine the quality that I'm used to. Now that I'm on more of a budget, and, my grandparents and parents have passed away, I don't have the luxury of those $1000+ or homemade comforters. The quality of this comforter is fabulous!!! I must say that it easily compares to what I am used to. Evenly distributed feathers... beautiful boxed stitching... and an "Oh so soft" fabric that molds to your body instead of laying on top of it.!!! This comforter is light yet warm... perfect for the California coastal nights. I'll be sleeping with this one until the end of the summer!!! 5 STAR!!!!
