We live in the Philadelphia suburbs and experienced the power outage that was reported in the newspapers last month. Unfortunately we didn't have enough blankets to keep us warm. I got hypothermia. Afterwards I bought the Down Alternative comforter and used it when I got chills associated with the flu. I was a bit concerned that "down alternative" wouldn't work as well as the "real" item. But it did. It is *really* warm, and we now feel much better prepared should we lose power in the winter again.
I write reviews about every 10,000 years and those last 10,000 flew, you too? Anyway this comforter is magnificent. I was replacing a down comforter I purchased from Overstock 10 years ago; purchased two to stay warm in the high desert during the winter after spinal surgery(bought one for my Mother who came to stay with me for a week). The high desert can get very cold, we have been in the teen's this winter season. I was not sure I wanted this 'down alternative; comforter, I wanted down, just like I had purchased before. After much wringing of the hands and arguing about price, quality, all internally:), I decided on this one. I have been using it for the last 7 days and it is wonderful. It washed beautifully and its softness is unparallelled. It is so warm and comforting; I sat on the sofa front of the fireplace, no central heat on, watched a movie and yelled Nirvana. There was not a raging fire going on, more like a low burn, soon to be embers, with whatever heat it was supposed to be giving off was gently dispersed throughout all of the rooms around it. It looked pretty though. I purchased in the taupe color that is almost a light shimmery pecan. If you buy this just to be your Linus blanket, you will be happy; if you purchase it to truly keep you warm you will be amazed...
I purchased the sage color but I am using it to fill a duvet. This comforter is very fluffy and warm. For summer nights in Southern Calfornia this can be too warm for me. But it will be warm during the winter months and I will not have to use a heater. It is one of the larger king comforters-it fills the duvet cover nicely.
This comforter is gorgeous and is the SOFTEST cotton in the world. I would have given it TEN stars until I washed it (strictly according to instructions). After laundering, all the batting is smooshed up inside around the edges and it takes an hour of vigorous shaking and manipulating to get it MOSTLY straightened out.. The way the filling is secured into the comforter cover is, quite frankly, lame: they have not stitched it all the way to the edges on the comforter, so what one has is a comforter which has acceptable filling (no way "generous" as it says on the label) in the MIDDLE, and big poofy edges-around the sides of one's mattress. All the "generous" filling is around the EDGES! The upshot is, if I can't fix it, I will have to sadly return it
Ordered the Grand Luxe 300, but was sent something else and it was an inferior product. I always wash items before I put them on my bed and the alternative wadded up and is completely unuseable. I tried to dispute Overstock and they gave me the cleaning instructions from the Grand Luxe --- not the one they sent me. Buyer, beware. You may not receive the product you paid for and expected... I doubt this review will even make it to you because it will be reviewed by Overstock.
Bought this to use as a bedspread so bought the larger size King; it's perfect. Very fluffy and soft; the quilting keeps it from bunching up. The color is true with a hint of sheen to it. We live in a moderate climate and I don't need to use a blanket with this comforter - although my husband does. Highly recommend it.
I love the color of the comforter I purchased- Sage green. The smooth texture is heavenly. However, It does not give sufficient warmth in the winter. I had to use a blanket as a layer between the sheet and the comforter. For the rest of the year, this comforter is comforting.
