I'm not sure why this happens but the individual pillow case set seems to be sewn a bit out of square, causing the case sides to twist a bit from the line of the pillow. But they have a great, deep color (Sage) that sets off the purple/plum they accent. Good hand - heavy, sturdy quality. A bit wrinkle prone but nothing unacceptable.
The pillow cases were sewn together off bias so when you put your pillows in the cases the seam runs diagonally accords your pillow. This became apparent after washing them ( as directed). You know when you try to match up seams and try to fold but you get all these wrinkles because it seems all twisted? Well, that's what's happening with these.
They're beautiful, adding some class to my bedroom. The sheet actually fits my king mattress. The bottom sheet does move around a little bit, but I'm the only one sleeping on that bed, and I don't straighten it every day. Caveat: I haven't washed it yet but so far it hasn't pilled or torn. The only problem for me is that it doesn't come in gold.
I am having a lot of trouble finding soft Queen size sheets. I saw a review of these so I bought them. I purchased the green set and I like the color and striping. For a 400 count Egyptian cotton, I would expect a softer sheet. I find them mildly scratchy. I opened just the second package of pillow cases and washed them. After sleeping on them for a day or two I was planning on returning the other package of the complete set but while I was out of the house, my husband opened them and made the bed so now we're stuck with them. I am getting used to the texture so it isn't as bothersome but there's never a time that I get in and think, "Ahhhh...". I would not buy these again.
