These are the classic old fashioned, cotton percale sheets. Percale is meant to be crisp and has more body than sateen. If you're looking for something soft, then these are probably not for you. Percale does soften some with repeated washing, and will last awhile if fabric softener is used sparingly, and even longer if line dried. Line drying also reduces wrinkles with percale, unlike most other things. Don't spin them too dry; wash them on permanent press cycle or even delicate to avoid this. Give them a few shakes and hang out. They'll smell fresher and you'll save energy. Some of the stiffness will go away as they dry. Iron, if you feel like it. I sometimes iron them for the guest bed after spraying with lavender water, and occasionally even for ourselves, when I'm not too busy.;) It's not difficult if folded properly, and our guest bed is king size. I only do along the top 12-16 inches of the flat sheet, [the part that shows when the sheets are folded down] and the fitted sheet stretches enough, it's not needed. Pillowcases are just fun, a no-brainer. These are classic cotton percale, like your classic oxford shirt. If you don't want wrinkles, they'll need ironing. If you're looking for soft, silky sheets, then you want sateen, not percale. [or silk!] If you just want easy care and comfort is secondary, then go for a blend, like poly-cotton. If you want only good looks and something that'll make you sweat, then try microfiber. [!] Learn the difference between different kinds of sheets and you will not be as likely to be disappointed.
These sheets are perfect! They have extra deep pockets (yay!). The pockets are so deep, that I actually have extra room and don't have to pull to near-seam-ripping to get them over the mattress. Yay again! The fabric is very nice and high quality. I always wash my sheets in HOT water, and these sheets are holding up quite well. Percale vs Sateen: Percale is my personal sheet preference, and this is why I ordered these. If you are not familiar with these two different styles/fabrics, please pay attention. A lot of folks are complaining in the reviews about the feel of the sheets. However, these are perfect percale sheets! I think those complaints are arising, because those folks would prefer sateen sheets. Percale is a crisper sheet. These are still quite soft and very, very nice. But they are intended to be crisp. That's why I like percale. It is what I desire in a sheet. Sateen sheets are silkier in feel. They are more like butter. I don't like buttery sheets (but lots of folks do). If you want "buttery", order sateen sheets (not these!). If you want crisp, order these. If you are a percale person, these sheets will not disappoint!
I was concerned about ordering this product because the other reviews said that the sheets were so uncomfortable. Straight out of the package, the sheets were very scratchy and uncomfortable. But I washed once with hot water and dried on high heat and now the sheets are really comfortable. The fitted sheet is very very deep and covers the large mattress pad easily with room to spare. Very happy with the purchase. Minus one star because the "slate blue" color was much darker than expected - almost looks black.
I love the size of the sheets. The texture is not as soft as I thought it would be, being percale but I think it may be that the sizing wasn't fully out after two washings. The color is good. I made a mistake in my first order and thought I could substitute different size pillow cases. I found out that what they mean is that you have the option of ordering additional pillow cases of another size. I was able to return the extra pillow cases, since a phone call to the 800 number only continued my confusion. On the whole, I am satisfied with the product and the service. I have ordered another set.
Items arrived before scheduled date; washed and placed on bed and I am one happy customer - perfect for my bed and the deep pockets are perfect - no more fighting to place the sheets on the bed, and the perfect amount of softness for me!
My husband and I have been searching for nice crisp cool sheets and we've finally found them! I was very impressed that the fitted sheet has a nice wide band of elastic around it and the fitted sheet fit easily around my very deep mattress. I intend to purchase a second set!
The color of the sheets was as advertised and do look very nice. However, the sheets are not as comfortable as I expected them to be because of the thread count. They are very deep pocket. I have a California King bed with a pillowed mattress and the sheets are actually a bigger fit. If you want a snug fir for your sheets, these are not for you.
I wouldn't recommend the sheet set to a friend only because the fitted sheet bunches up when I'm sleeping. Each morning I have to tug & pull it taught, lifting the mattress to make it fit smoothly again.I have a 4" memory foam on top of my mattress and it still doesn't fit snug enough. The sheets are wonderfully comfortable and the color (taupe) is very rich.
Jury is still out on these. They weren't soft at all. In fact, I actually questioned whether they were really 100% cotton. I washed them before I put them on the bed and then I googled egyptian cotton sheets and it said you have to give them a chance and that they get softer. I washed them a second time and they seemed to soften up a bit. I'm really just lazy and hate to return things so I'm sticking with them for now. Let's see.
I am always on the hunt for a crisp sheet that 'snaps' and rustles when you move it, like the sheets of my childhood. This is pretty darn close to that. I got the white, so I can't say if the colors have the same feel or not. The pockets are extremely deep. The quality is excellent: the seams on the pillow case and at the flat sheet edge are double stitched, and the fabric is light weight, but seems to be of high quality. These sheets wrinkle a lot when washed, so if you are looking for a soft, satiny, wrinkle free sheet, these are not for you. But if you want the coolness and snap of a crisp cotton sheet, give these a try. I have not owned them for long, so I cannot speak to the longevity of the fabric.I hope Overstock is able to keep these in stock. I'd like to order more after I 'recover' from this purchase.
I got these sheets because of the reviews. Some were very detailed and almost sounded like they knew what they were talking about. Forget it. If you want crisp get the Pointehaven 300 thread count Overstock has. They are divine - a bit thin but O so crisp! These are heavy due to higher thread count but more like Sateen than percale. More soft than crisp. I'm sending back. I got another (total 3 sets) of the 300 count - they have a lovely colored stripe on binding - very classy.
Pocket seam on these is a full 16" Im not even kidding, that as long as my forearm to the end of outstretched fingers. Sodding enormous, big enough to fit LOOSELY across my 66" wide Olympic Queen bed. This will fit over anything you throw at it, and the fitted sheet will need some tucking to tighten for all but the highest stacked beds. Nice middle weight percale, not super soft out of the first wash but pleasant and crisp. Should soften up with use. Good elastic all the way around, seem like solid medium-quality sheets. Outstanding value. Note that I washed in cold and dried on lowest setting, and the stitching on the pillowcases still shrank. Wash with care. Pillowcases are a weird size: mine came with 4 not 2, but 2 of them were 1.5" narrower than the others. No idea why.
Love these sheets. The corners on the fitted sheet are a step above the traditional... elastic band lined pocket corners, these fit your bed PERFECTLY. Top sheet and cases are gorgeous... Just make sure to get these out of the dryer ASAP
I bought these because of the extra deep pocket fitted sheet, assuming that the flat sheet would also be over-sized. It is not. My mattress is only 13.5", yet the flat sheet is not wide enough to tuck on the sides. It is super long, though. Very disappointed since they were rather expensive. I can't figure out why they would pair a fitted sheet that can fit mattresses up to 24" with a flat sheet not even large enough to properly fit a 13.5" mattress.
