These sheets are exactly like you had from your childhood! They are crisp and feel heavenly. Yes, you have to iron the pillowcases and maybe the flat sheet a little, but it so worth it to have that wonderful feeling from childhood! These are the line-dry in the sunshine, crisp sheets that are so difficult to find. They are substantial and the color is wonderful. I have the green and it is a beautiful sage color. Just a little darker than the photo, but exactly what I needed. I will be buying more and highly recommend these sheets!!
I found these sheets on Overstock.com and decided to purchase as we just bought a new Stearns & Foster mattress set which has a very deep mattress. It is very hard to find deep-pocket fitted sheets that REALLY FIT. These do!! They say they will fit mattresses up to 23 inches and they do that very nicely. They are also very soft. I was impressed so I ordered a 2nd set!!!
These sheets are quite possibly the WORST SHEETS I've ever purchased in my life. They are WAY too big - even for our super thick mattress - which means they bunch up as soon as you lie down on them. They are not even close to being soft. In fact, they are the scratchiest sheets I've ever slept on. I have no idea who is providing the good reviews but they are NOT to be trusted. Please do not disregard this review as a one-off. I wish I hadn't believed the good ones. I'm now out over $100 as, of course, Overstock does not allow open package returns. Pricey lesson but I learned it. No more Overstock - EVER!
These sheets, made in Pakistan, are advertised as Egyptian Cotton (which is known for its long fiber, soft and smooth feel). However, the sheets are quite rough, which makes me wonder whether they are India Cotton or China Cotton (which are known for their short fiber, rough and harsh feel). I've washed them several times now and have given up on them. I'm just going to throw these sheets away.
Yes, I would recommend these sheets to a friend if they were not so particular about percale. I've tried for years to get the old-fashioned percale sheets that I grew up with. These are close but no cigar. They're crinkly but not crisp; they're soft but not cool; they're smooth but don't have the 'hand' of the old percale. I don't know if it's something they put into the fabrics nowadays but even though the weave is percale, these don't feel quite the same. Good points: They are 100% cotton and generously sized. They seemed to be made pretty well (I've only washed them twice so far). I purchased the Iris color and they are a beautiful light purple, violet color -- on the bluish side. I would have preferred a more subtle greyish tone but these are quite beautiful and restful-looking.
These percale sheets are a disappointment, very thin, and a wrinkled mess. I was very impressed with the deep pockets though. Comparing these to the percale my mother used is pretty pathetic. Have to add that of all the bedding I've purchased from Overstock, I've always been happy with my prior purchases and plan to purchase all my bedding from Overstock.
I've been looking for the sheets I grew up with. The crisp, hang em out on the line, fresh cotton sheets. These are close, but no cigar!. They feel thin and not quite as "crisp" and cool as I'd like. Can't stand Sateen sheets, don't like sheets that pill, won't do knit sheets, and flannel is too warm to sleep under. What am I looking for...how can I find it? It gets expensive buying sheets to try out. I have old muslin embroidered pillow cases that I starch and iron...that's the feel I'm looking for. These sheets did not quit measure up.
By the things I had read, these sheets were supposed to be cool and feel like grandmas old sheets from my childhood. FORGET THAT! They are NOT cool at all, they don't feel good, smooth, or soft, even after I washed them. Very let down, but they are still sheets, so I will keep them as a spare set for winter, maybe. Live and learn. I will look for combed 100% cotton next time, like the spare pillowcases I ordered some time back which feel great! Cool, smooth, and soft.
I have been searching for those wonderful percale sheets I remember from childhood, and these are IT! Love Love Love them! And honestly, they weren't that wrinkled coming out of the dryer OR after hanging on the washline. I know... it was my chore to iron all the household sheets.
I am very finicky about the sheets that I put on my bed. I don't like sateen or jersey or flannel. I like percale! Yes it wrinkles, but there is nothing better feeling than climbing into a bed with cool crisp sheets. It is getting harder and harder to find sheets, not to mention the fact that I have a 20" deep mattress. So it is doubly difficult for me to find extra deep pockets and percale. I love them! They are big enough for my mattress and they have that cool crisp feeling that I love. I would recommend them to anyone who likes percale sheets.
As many people have stated, we like percale! Yes, these are percale! I have washed them 3 times in hot water and they are softening up. They were a bit rough and stiff when they came, so, I ran them twice through the washer and dryer before I put them on the bed. Yes, they wrinkle terribly, but, isn't that what real percale did? Isn't that why Grandma ironed them? Well, I am not going to iron! They are fine. I bought a 3 inch memory foam pad to go on our 12 inch pillowtop, and the deep pockets work great! These have wonderful elastic all around. I got the beautiful lavender color and am thrilled. I think they are very good quality and I am super picky!!
Ok, I just got them and have only washed them once, but these have the real feel of percale! Maybe not quite as thick as grandmas but pretty darn close. FINALLY!!! I've been looking forever for the feel of percale. Oh and these are seriously deep pockets.
These sheets are way oversized for our queen sized mattress. The fitted sheet just hangs like an oversized sack and look terrible on our bed. Our Mattress is less than one year old and we needed some deep pocket sheets and thought this would fit the bill. We were wrong. The sheets even feel thin for a Percale 350 thread count. Our mattress is a Stearns and Foster pillow top so if that is what you have these queen sized sheets will be too large for your needs.
Although these sheets are "ok" I just cannot recommend them. They are a bit scratchy, I am sure over time they will soften with each progressive wash. For the money, they are ok. But Overstock has some other Percale 400 thread count sheets, I would recommend others to purchase over these.
I always wash bed and bath items before using them the first time. These sheets came out more wrinkled than I am used to.(I've never bought Egyptian Cotton Percale before, maybe that's the nature of the product?) They are thicker and seem smoother, more substantial than sheets I have had in past though. For the lesser price I paid, these seem quite luxurious and I hope a few more washings will solve the stiff, wrinkly part.
