Truthfully, though I didn't actually unfold them, I did feel the fabric after opening the box before sending this duvet cover back just to look at it up close and actually touch it to be sure I really didn't want to keep it after all. And I definitely did not get the immediate impression that the duvet cover was quite as special or of the quality the site description implies or the picture suggests. The fabric looks much better in the photograph to me than it actually looked in reality or, more importantly felt. It didn't have a good "hand" shall we say. And the hue of blue had a murky tone to it that in no did its sateen weave impart the impression of the "smooth feel and subtle sheen" that the description so boasts -- subtle or otherwise. "Sateen weaves" are common -- they're hardly are rarefied as the description would suggest. And they come in all different levels of quality. In and of itself, "sateen" doesn't necessarily go hand-in-hand with "luxurious." (Though it can, of course.) Not only did the fabric of this duvet cover lack a true luxuriousness to it, the sateen sheen was barely discernible. It was "subtle" though -- this part of the description was indeed accurate. A little too subtle. Verging on "barely there."
I buy a tremendous amount of sheets quite regularly as I have a regular stream of guests and like to have lots of sets so as to preclude me from having to find myself in a position of rushing last minute to wash them if I've gotten busy and fallen behind my laundering duties. (Or just don't feel like doing laundry . . .) And though I have more than I actually reasonably require at this juncture, I still buy more because I have a penchant for fine linens that is something of – dare I say it? – an “addiction.” In fact, I've got an entire steamer trunk filled to the brim with sets of fine linens and shams and pillowcase --mostly from Overstock. I’ve bought so many linens that the last set I acquired was bought with the points saved up from my O Club rewards earned buying sheets. (Couldn’t resist using them to treat myself to “just one more set.”) So I would say that I am in a good position to judge the relativity of that quality known as "luxurious." And to my delight, many a set that I have bought from Overstock indeed certainly do have that quality -- above and beyond even what I expected. Because that is the very quality I'm always looking for in linens.
That said, by comparison, this particular manufacturer's goods didn't hold a candle to my prior purchases. Especially considering its price -- which is on the higher end of the spectrum for Overstock's bargains. I've bought fine percale bedding that had more of a "subtle sheen" and luxurious feel to it for less money than this particular item. And for the price of this one 600 thread count duvet set, I bought a king sized set of 1000 thread count sheets with four pillow cases that truly were downright divine -- and utterly luxurious in the most subtle of ways -- truly so. So I'm surprised to see this item got so very high a rating overall. They might be "nice" and they might be "perfectly fine" -- but these things are relative. And I say there's a lot nicer and MUCH finer for the money.
Heed my advice here, prospective buyer. (After all, I did not develop this addiction to bedding because I just can't get enough pillowcases and fitted sheets in and of themselves . . . or because I just can't resist the allure of wrapping myself up in a 50/50 cotton-polyester blend envelope of 200-thread count yardage every night before drifting off to sleep . . . No! I became addicted to fine bedding by virtue of treating myself to some REALLY GOOD sheets! And once I crossed that line . . . alas I was hooked.
Admittedly, I've neglected other areas of my life in pursuit of my addiction. I daresay my sheet collection surpasses my wardrobe. By a longshot. Sad but true, but it’s come to that point . . . On other hand, what do I really need clothes for anyway? I spend most of my time in bed . . . That’s what happens when you’re addicted – you get pulled in . . . and before you know it, you can barely get out of bed . . .
(It’s true.)
I've had more one-night stands with more fine sheets than I care to admit, but there you have it. Tall sheets, extra-long sheets, white sheets, black sheets, and sheets of mixed color. I've even slept with pink sheets -- I don't discriminate! I'll go for a roll in the hay once with any type of sheet just for the experience . . . thin sheets, fat sheets, new hard sheets, old wrinkled sheets . . . And yes, even the softest of sheets that some would refer to as "all washed up." I hate to admit it, but I've woken up with sheets whose names and numbers I couldn't even remember. Call me "wild" -- so be it. But if there's one thing I know, it's a fine set of sheets! They may generally be built with the same materials, but they all have their own unique, distinct qualities . . .
“Good” isn't good enough. What you really want to find is the type that makes you never want to get out of bed. And they're out there, believe me. But this ain't it. (In other words, you can do better, honey. MUCH better. TRUST me! This one's not your type. Don’t invest another MINUTE focusing on this one. Just MOVE on. . . )
There. I’ve said my peace. Now I don’t want to discuss it any further.
- How did the color on site compare with the actual product? Inaccurate. I had ordered the blue, which -- in the picture -- appeared to be that of a bright blue sky. In reality it was a darker shade of "light" blue.
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Beyond the immediate observation as to the color being inaccurately represented, In all fairness I cannot comment as to the actual quality. For I returned it without using it, opting instead for another set of sheets of much higher thread count for the price of this one duvet cover.
- How accurate was the on site description of the product? On a scale of 1-10? A 4.
