have purchased 1000 ct egyptian cotton sheets from overstock in the past and am disappointed in this set. these sheets were more like 400 to perhaps 600 ct in softness and thickness. in addition i found them to be somewhat skimpy in size. i would not buy them again nor recommend them to others.
I have to wonder if some of the people reviewing these sheets are actually receiving/reviewing the same product. One person says, "these were too heavy - like canvas! Not good for warm climates," and right after or before that, someone said, "these were so flimsy and lightweight, there's no way they are 1000 thread count!" Another example was a reviewer who said, "these were so scratchy out of the package!" Right next to that was, "these were so silky smooth, right out of the package!" But the best one is, "these are way too shiny to be Egyptian Cotton sateen" followed by, "these are not even shiny lilke real Egyptian Cotton sateen should be!" I would just like to clear these up, assuming we are, in fact getting the same sheets. I just received mine (king size, white.) Out of the package, they actually did feel silky smooth on one side, less so on the other. I immediately washed them in cold, normal cycle, then dried them. My dryer setting was "more dry" so they did come out with the typical wrinkles expected from a high heat tumble of heavy cotton sheeting. They feel incredibly soft - still, one side (the finished side of the fitted sheet, the side of the flat sheet that will touch skin, as well as the outer sides of the pillow cases) is silky smooth with a dull sheen, and the other side is not as silky smooth with no sheen. Also, to those who gasp at the fact that the sheets are made in China and, therefore, couldn't be Egyptian Cotton, that is an INACCURATE statement. Part of my college design courses included Textiles, and the term, "Egyptian Cotton" refers to the fibers, themselves - the COTTON, which is from Egypt. Manufacturers all over the world use Egyptian cotton so, for example, a more expensive set of sheets I purchased last year were made in Italy. They are still sold as Egyptian Cotton sheets, made in Italy. I gave these sheets 4 stars instead of 5 because I do see that, out of the packaging, the end threads weren't trimmed off sufficiently, so I did that myself - a measure I didn't have to take when I purchased the $700 Egyptian Cotton sheets made in Italy. But, snipping off a few threads was well worth the savings on these. I am curious to see how they will wear over the months, and if, in fact, they do pill (one of my pet peeves,) I'll be sure to adjust my review rating.
These are the scratchiest 1000-thread counts I've ever encountered, which I presume is why the price is so reasonable. I expect these will soften with use but I still would have preferred a softer texture from the start, as is achieved by other high-thread-count sheets. Pros: deep fitted pocket fits my sleep number mattress + 4 inch memory foam topper. The color I ordered (stone/taupe) is beautiful. Cons: unpleasant texture
The color of the sheets is lovely but the quality is very poor. I have washed them many times and while the sheets themselves don't seem to pill, they literally shed onto everything, i.e., mattress pad, blankets, quilt, nightgown and carpet. The seams in the pillow cases started coming apart after one wash.
As the title implies, I've been buying high thread-count sheets for years now. When you first buy a pair of high thread-count sheets, sure, they're heavy, but they shouldn't be overly stiff as these sheets are. And with washing, they get softer over time. I have sheets from about 6 years ago, that, while they are getting a bit worn now, are probably the softest sheets ever, and they were like that when I took them out of the package. These are probably a double ply sheet. They're very stiff and yes, heavy, but it's like wearing a canvas blanket. I've had them for about six months now and they haven't really softened up at all, like I hoped they would. I don't know who you're trying to fool, Overstock, but it isn't me. You used to have great sheets, but not anymore. These are cast-offs.
We didn't think we could afford such luxury (1,000 TC!) so thank you Overstock! What a deal! These are like sleeping on cool soft silk. We bought the burgundy and copper colors and they are gorgeous! The quality is excellent and they launder very well. They fit our standard queen sized bed perfectly but seem as though they would also fit pillow top mattresses. Get these! They cost 3 to 4 times this much at department stores!
I love the color and feel of these sheets. The only reason they are not rated excellent is because they wrinkle more than I would like.
Very nice sheets and they are very comfortable, you can tell the difference in sheet quality when you climb into bed!
Best price anywhere and quality is as good as it gets.
I had high hopes for these sheets but was very unhappy upon receiving them. I washed the sheets as soon as I received them and they are very stiff and very heavy, absorbing a ton of heat. I do not believe that these are "Egyptian Cotton 1000 Thread Count" now that they are in my posession. Very disappointed and would not recommend.
