Down Pillows

Down has always been identified with luxurious bedding. Feather-filled bed coverings have been used in cool climates for centuries, and down, the soft inner layer of feathers, is the warmest, fluffiest filling. If you want to cushion your weary body while you sleep, place a down featherbed atop your mattress. If you want to add extra warmth to your bed, invest in a good down comforter. Then complete your bedding with down pillows and sleep cradled from head to toe in comfort.
Down features excellent thermal insulation and good lofting characteristics, providing the ultimate padding for your head as you lie down to sleep. As you shop for down bedding, you'll notice that most items have a fill-power rating. Fill power is the area that one ounce of filling occupies at full loft, measured in cubic inches. Warmth and fluffiness increases with the rating; 500 is a good rating, and anything above 700 is considered to be very high quality. If you want extra-fluffy pillows, look for designs with gusseted edges that allow the filling to reach its full loft.
Down feather pillows are available in various densities and sizes to accommodate different sleep styles. Get extra-firm pillows for side sleepers, firm or medium for back sleepers, and soft for stomach sleepers. In addition to the standard and king sizes, you can get down body pillows to give your body extra support and even square pillows to fit European shams that come with bedding sets.
Down pillows will last for several years with proper care. If you use zip-on covers, your pillow will have two protective coverings when you put on the case. You can wash the covers and the cases frequently, which will cut down the number of washings the pillows will need. Fluff your down pillows once a week to redistribute the filling.
