Down Comforters

Beds have been filled with feathers for millennia, and today, down comforters are chosen the world over for their superior softness. When you're ready to upgrade to down bedding for the ultimate in comfort and warmth, here are a few things to keep in mind before you buy.

The warmest goose-down comforters feature a high fill power combined with a high thread count. Fill power is the measure of the loft or "fluffiness" of a down product; a down comforter with a higher fill power offers more insulating air pockets, resulting in more warmth for chilly nights. A 700 or higher fill power is considered outstanding, while 525 to 600 is good quality. If you get cold at night and prefer an extra warm, extra fluffy comforter, look for something in the 600 to 700 fill power range. A lower fill power is excellent for use in the summer.

Thread count and material determine what the comforter feels like. Thread count measures the number of threads per square inch of fabric in the shell or lining; the higher the thread count, the softer and more durable the material will be. Luxury bedding often has a thread count of 800 or even 1,000. If you get hot while you sleep, keep in mind that the higher the thread count, the tighter the weave of the fabric, so there will be less air flow. If you're going to use a duvet cover, thread count may not be as much of a concern.

If you're concerned about the feathers in your down blanket bunching over to one side, then a down comforter with baffle box construction is perfect for you. Baffle box construction means there are vertical and horizontal seams sewn into the comforter. These seams keep down in place and prevent it from moving and bunching in a single spot within your comforter it maintains a consistent fill.

This product is beautiful on my bed. It is comfortable, and soft. I love it. I'm going to purchase another one. The price is good and so is the merchandise.

Bought this down comforter to replace one I bought at a big name dept store a few years ago. This comforter is so much better quality from the amount of fill and the fabric that I was totally impressed. I was able to place it on the bed for a few weeks then it got too warm and I had to pack it away for the spring, but it was nice fluffy warm. It washed up beautifully in my front loader washer and I will plan on pulling it out in the fall.

I was looking for a quality product for an unbelievable price and I found it. Not as fluffy as I had wanted but better than any other duvet found in stores for even twice the price of this. I'd definitely purchase it again.

Cheap, poorly made comforter. Did not feel like a "down blend"; more like a plastic fill. Very disappointed and will not purchase comforters online again (only in person). Lesson learned....

I was looking for something I could keep on the bed year-round, but this is pretty hot! It was ok through winter, I would still sweat a little at night.
