Good value
 from PA,  Sep 30, 2008

A few months ago my husband and I switched from a full motion water bed to a firm mattress that was previously in the guest room. The support of the water bed (firm, but with a wonderfully soft feel) is worlds different than the support of a firm mattress (almost like a sheet of plywood), and we both had difficulty making the switch. We talked several times about trying a memory foam topper, but always decided against it because of heat issues, especially on his part. I found the Mem-Cool topper on Overstock and ordered it without any discussion, because I knew that he would say no. I was hopeful about this topper because of the good reviews I read from folks who claim to put out lots of heat and sweat heavily. When it arrived, we unrolled it in the guest room and let it sit for 4 days. We flipped it after 2 days in an attempt to help with the odor. It regained its shape within 24 hours. We have had it on the bed for about two weeks now and it still has a bit of a chemical smell. My husband says that he doesn't smell it, and it must be dissipating, because it is not as noticeable now as it was when we put it on two weeks ago. My husband told me not to expect to keep the topper on for more than 3-4 days. Despite the reviews and description, he expected his warmth issues to increase with this topper. After the second night, he commented about how much cooler he had been the previous two nights. I was always 'just right' in the water bed, but had started sweating profusely when we switched to the regular mattress. I also found after a few nights with the memory foam that I was not waking up soaked. This was the clincher for us!! We are both sleeping much cooler now! I was originally afraid that 2" would not be thick enough, but I am glad that I did not go any thicker. It took a few nights to get comfortable on this topper, mainly because it is such a different feel than both the water bed and firm mattress. I now feel very strongly that anything thicker than 2" would have been too thick, and I would almost like to try something a bit thinner than 2". I read some reviews that complained that these toppers are not quite wide and long enough to cover most mattresses. I am afraid that those people did not read the description closely and most of them lack the ability to think outside of the box. We have a Queen mattress, which measures 60"x80" - Overstock's Queen topper measures 57"x77", which is 3" too short in width and length. If you take time to look at things, you will notice that there is no price difference based on size. In other words, a twin topper costs just as much as a California King and King topper. Based on this, we purchased the California King topper, which measured 70"x80". It was already the correct length; we cut 10" off of the width and it is now a perfect fit! I am a pediatric physical therapist, so I will have no problem putting the other 10"x80" strip of foam to good use! Think outside of the box folks! Overall, we are quite pleased with this purchase, and given the same circumstances, would not hesitate to make the same purchase again.

a good nights sleep...
from Castro Valley, CA,  Mar 30, 2010

I sleep on a very firm mattress, that as i gained weight, became more and more uncomfortable. I would wake up with sore hips, sore knees and a sore back. I was seriously thinking about buying a new mattress. Not because my mattress was wore out, but because it was not comfortable at all. After going around and being hassled by sales people on what I need to feel better at night, and not being comfortable in the 5 minutes I was laying on the bed they where trying to sell me, i tried a different route. I decided to buy a memory foam mattress topper. Since I am a bologna sandwich over 300 pounds I decided to buy two 2 inch mattress pads. I bought the 5-pound 2 inch sensus pad and also the 4-pound 2 inch Mem-cool pad. My logic was that my weight would not be totally supported with just a 2 inch pad, and also, i get hot at night. So, I now have 4 inches of pad. I put the 4 pound Mem-cool on top of the 5-pound Sensus. The mem-cool does what it is supposed to do. i have yet to have a very hot day, but I am cool and comfortable on top of it. Sleeping on these two pads is so much better on my body. And all for under 250 bucks. it has made a huge difference, and after 3 months, there is still no permanent impression I was worried about because of my weight. these are both high quality pads. I can still comfortably turn without putting up a big fight cause i am stuck in a rut. As for comfort? Wow. what a difference. I get a great nights rest and am not waking up all the time in the middle of the night. i am a side sleeper, and the pain would wake me up every night. not anymore. i get a great nights rest. Do not hesitate if you have had the same problems i have had and are overweight. You will not regret it.

my idea
from Tyler, Texas,  Feb 1, 2011

I bought the lowest level Sleep Number bed and added a 4 pound 2 inch memory foam topper.... it turned out to be great for me.... it's the same as if you buy the MUCH higher priced Sleep Number bed that included the memory foam topper.... and when the memory foam starts to compress (as they all do), you just replace it with a new topper.... my Sleep Number bed is still the same as when I bought it about 3 years ago.... I need it at 100 with the topper.... just a thought.... it's more expensive than just adding a topper to an old mattress, but it's worth it for me to sleep comfortably.... I'm a mail carrier and have hip pain at night..... ALSO, I noticed Overstock stopped showing the weight or DENSITY of the memory foam toppers..... and that's a very important piece of information for the consumer.... a 2 inch 2.5 lb density topper is not the same as a 2 inch 4 lb denisity topper .... just so you know

not so cool
from Atlanta, GA,  Sep 22, 2010

its soft, and springs back to shape fairly easily, it's not like climbing up out of a crater to turn over, but it is NOT what i would call "cool". It's no cooler than any other memory foam. You will get hot at night, even if you have a thick cotton mattress pad on top of it. It will be fine in the winter, not so much now in summer.

Nice for the price
from Indianapolis, IN,  Sep 8, 2010

Ordered this to go on top of our memory foam mattress (also an Overstock purchase). It smells very strong upon arrival, but it will dissipate if you let it air out. I have a very sensitive nose, and I can still smell it through the sheets sometimes, but overall I think it's still fading--we've had it about a month and a half. The main reason for the purchase was the price, which was very good. I'm not sure about the 'cooling' effect--memory foam insulates you pretty well and can make it warm. I'm not a hot sleeper, so maybe that's why I can't tell. It is a little on the soft side, but that's what I wanted. Would have given it five stars if not for the lingering chemical smell.

memory foam topper
from virginia beach Virginia,  Feb 7, 2009

I had ordered a memory foam mattress about 6 months ago which was too firm for me. I decided to add this 2inch topper which turned out to be an excellent idea. It gives just enough softness to the already foam mattress. Anyway I am very happy with the purchase. I ordered a california king for my king bed and the fit was great. I didn't have to make any adjustments at all. I really am satisfied with all my overstock purchases. Thank you and will see you again!

Great stuff
from Rego Park, NY,  Jan 10, 2009

I am very sensitive to smells, so I hesitate to buy the memory foam topper because I heard many of them smell aweful. This one totally exceeds my expectation. It only has slight smell when you put your nose right on top of it. After covering it by thick sheet, I smell nothing after 2 days.I used to have a Eurotop Serta mattress. Too soft and I keep having back pain. So I switched to a very firm mattress. This topper makes it much more comfortable. It takes me around 3 days to get used to it. Now I never have back pain or shoulder pain! And it is COOL! I never feel warmth as I felt on my roommate's memory foam mattress.I got a CalKing size and cut it to fit my queen size mattress. Just use a big scissor to cut. Very easy. This topper wouldn't give you cloud like feeling. I put a feather bed on top it and now my bed is perfect!

Gives my mattress new life...
from Hamburg, NY,  Jan 10, 2009

I have a bad back and my mattress will need to be replaced soon, but since I wasn't ready to do that, I wanted to try one of these foam mattress toppers. After reading reviews on Overstock about this topper and others, I chose this one because of the 'Mem-cool' feature. I read that some of the other ones cause people to feel overheated and I would have hated that. This topper hasn't caused that problem at all. I noticed right away that it helped relieve pressure on my hips and other joints. It's been very comfortable. I bought the queen size and when it arrived, very quickly after ordering it by the way, it was folded in half and rolled up tight. We had to pry it apart and unroll it and then it has to be left out to 'grow' for about 24 hours. I wondered if it would really get to be the right size because at first it looked about the size of a twin, but lo and behold, it did exactly what the instructions said it would do and ended up queen-size. It didn't have any odor at all. I can't say it's the prettiest thing in the world, but it performs fine and that's what's important.

Helps Soften Bed
from Chicago Suburbs,  Dec 31, 2008

My last bed was a pillowtop that eventually got matted down unevenly where we slept. To avoid this again, I got a firm/plush mattress & this memory foam topper. It isn't as soft & sink-in cushiony as a pillowtop mattress, but since I don't mind a firmer bed, it's OK. If you want to feel enveloped & really soft, this won't do it. Also, I got the CAL King & cut it down to fit a queen mattress so it fits well. There was a slight rubber smell for about 3 weeks, but not bad. The price here was better than anywhere else I checked.

Cool and Comfortable
from Denver, Colorado,  Nov 26, 2008

I was hesitant to buy a memory foam topper, having had one before that proved to be almost suffocatingly warm. This one was advertised as a "cool" memory foam, so I took a chance. Having slept on it for several weeks, I've been very satisfied with its performance. It's no warmer than the latex topper it replaced. I recommend the 2-inch topper. For me, anything thicker feels like trying to turn over in quicksand.

Works for me
 from B'ham, AL,  Nov 13, 2008

The cool touch mattress topper is fine for me even though I am a very hot sleeper. I was afraid I would sweat all night, but I don't at all. I've had it about a month, and so far am very satisfied, I just wish it had come with a cover.

Mem-cool is cool
from Central Florida,  Aug 30, 2008

Hyperhydrosis causes excessive sweating without activity. Using a convoluted foam topper caused me to move to a cool spot several times a night, badly disturbing my sleep. The Mem-cool topper has stopped that. I knew the first night that it was going to make a major difference. While a body is going to heat any spot it is on, this is not excessive and I rarely awaken because of heat. Great relief!!

Fantastic value!
from Atlanta, GA,  Jul 30, 2008

I have a 1 year old mattress which, though still firm, has been leaving me aching in the morning. I'm a big guy, so I got a pillow top. Looking back, I think that was an error. Cotton and regular foam isn't enough to really get rid of the pressure points. It compresses too much over time. This memory foam topper has made my mornings much better. I feel 10 years younger. My recommendation now would be to get a good, firm, well-build mattress, then add this topper to get yourself a wonderful night's sleep.

This pad is just the right thickness and firmness to soften a hard mattress without being too squishy or hot. I would buy this again

mattress topper
 from Texas,  Feb 15, 2012

Very nice 2 inch topper (however, it looks more like a 3 inch). Purchased for use over our 11 inch mattress. We have no problems with getting overheated, however, it was mainly purchased to add a bit of softness over our firm mattress. We are pleased with our purchase. Our bed is so comfortable!

Not very cool
 from LA,  Feb 5, 2012

I bought this pad because I get really hot at night and thought it would help with that, not so much. I still get sweaty at night eventhough I must admit its not as hot as my mattress. However, this pad is supper comfortable and I would recommend to someone who does not have problems with night sweats.

Not good
 from Arkansas,  Feb 2, 2012

The memory foam arrived in a timely manner but it had black marks on it like it had been drug on the floor I know all synthetic items have to be aired for a couple of days for the smell to dissipate but after 1 week the smell was still incredibly strong . Overstock refunded my money quickly.
