    • Excellent comforter!

For the last 2 years, I have been researching different comforters but because of already having enough blankets on my bed, I decided against buying one until now...and I'm glad I waited, because I made the right choice! I have slept under various down comforters all which I have really loved, they have varied from minimal fill 250 to a higher fill of 700. Only the high, high fill down comforters have been enough for me to sleep under alone (I run cold) and so I was nervous about buying one with a fill of only 600. Additionally, there were the issues about losing down, uneven down distribution, potential allergies, and cost. When I found this wool filled comforter, I read all the reviews and also did outside research about wool. Everything says wool makes for a great comforter and it keeps you very WARM! In addition, the wool will never leak outside of the comforter, it's hypoallergenic, the wool is evenly distributed amongst the squares, and the cost is EXCELLENT for the value! The only thing I could imagine one wouldn't like is the heaviness of the comforter, but I appreciate a little weight in my blanket... And as others mentioned, there's a slight smell with the comforter (extremely minimal). I got a king size to go with my queen bed (I prefer it to hang down the sides). I also got a great duvet cover to go with it. This is a great purchase!

    • This is an excellent product.

There are a lot of reviews of this, so I will start with a point that no one has yet made. Please take a moment to consider, and even look up the abusive treatment of geese to produce those luxurious down comforters everyone is so hooked on. I dare you to watch a video of it. Now think for a moment of sheep that are made more comfortable through annual shearing--their parasites controlled, the mats removed for the hot summer months. The ancient tradition of using goose down wasn't even similar to the travesty we practice today. I have pet geese, and I won't participate in this cruelty any more, though I've owned countless goose down comforters and pillows over the years in my ignorance. You may be a vegetarian, and I applaud you for it. I am not. I believe in humane use of farm animals. Commercial use in this country is not humane. Now on to the comforter! I wanted to sleep under it in warm weather before reviewing, but then thought I might be waiting a bit, since we live in the mountains and experience cool nights year-round. It is far more cozy and comfy than down. It stays put, looks neat, etc. Don't let the "lack of loft" fool you! It is lightweight and feels much like down--only better. You will love it. I am positive.

    • Wool Comforter is the way to go

I am a wool comforter convert. I will no longer buy down comforters. The wool comforter provides all the warmth and coziness of a down comforter without all the dust. Plus the wool comforter stays in place at night. Each qulted sqaure of wool is heavier than the down (although, the overall feel of the comforter is not too heavy) and it moves less. Also, the wool comforter doesn't bunch within the duvet cover like the down comforter so the overall effect is warmer. This wool comforter had no funny smell and I am very sensitive to smells. Say goodbye to down and try wool!

    • Nice comforter but smelly

My husband and I love sleeping under this comforter, but it was awfully smelly when it arrived--a potent mix of chemicals and wool. I washed it twice on gentle in my washer and then once very thoroughly in my bathtub after the washing machine wasn't cutting it. After line drying, the smell was sufficiently gone that we felt comfortable using it. I would recommend it to others, but expect to have to wash it prior to use.

    • Very happy with this.

I've used the comforter for a few weeks now. It's very comfortable, seems to breathe better than down, so it's more comfortable when I have hot flashes. Haven't experienced the true winter cold yet, so not sure if I'll have to add a blanket. There was an odor (mentioned in other reviews) but it lessened within hours and I didn't notice it at all within a few days. A very good value, and I'm glad I bought it.

    • Great duvet

I was looking at feather duvets, however I am a bit allergic to down so also was looking for alternatives, saw this and felt good reading the reviews and I purchased. Very glad I did, I love this duvet, yes it is heavier than down, what wouldn't be? Not really heavy but feels very comforting. It just feels so good, I rarely get too hot as I do under synthetic. I recommend this highly.

    • Wonderful for CO winters

I have been happy with down and primaloft comforters purchased from Overstock but decided after reading the reviews to try this wool-filled one. It is a great purchase for the price--good quality, attractive on the bed, lying flatter and neater than the puffier alternatives. My husband loves the comforter, says he prefers the warmth and heavier weight of the wool. We live with colder winter temperatures in the Rockies, but as we have some heat in our bedroom, I find that I still prefer the lighter primaloft. I don't know whether it will shrink or not (hoping to wash on cold and hang dry). I bought the king size for a queen bed with extra deep mattress, as queens are often a bit skimpy, but the king runs large and hangs down almost too far on the sides of our bed, covering at least half the dust ruffle.

    • Eureka, I've found it!

The blanket is warm and doesn't shift around like a down comforter. I like it so much, I'm getting my parents a king size. No more safety pinning a comforter to its cover.

    • Does the box stitching go all the way through to the opposite side so that the wool cannot shift outside the box? Thanks!

      Guidelines
      • Hi Helena, after reviewing with our support staff, we found that the stitching does go all the way through. I hope this helps, thank you for shopping with us!

    • is the size reversed? most comforters are 104x88 this is 88x104?

      Guidelines
      • I guess I don't understand the question...I just put it on my bed the way i want it...if I want more length on the sides, I turn it the "long" way to accomodate that. If I want more length from head to foot, I turn it the "long" way to accomodate that. There isn't a "right side" up indicator, if that is what you mean (like a silk overlay at one edge to indicate "this side by head").

      • Hello danthonydj, we apologize for the confusion. The king size comforter is 104 inches wide and 88 inches long. Thank you for shopping with us! A.C.

    • All the organic wool comforter insist that they are machine washable. Your site recommends dry cleaning for this comforter. Why is there a difference? Also, since this isn't listed as "organic," what chemicals are used to process the wool?

      Guidelines
      • Hello wbnyc, I apologize for the delay in response. Wool falls into many categories. Machine washable and dry clean only are just two of them. The type of wool used in this comforter cannot be machine washed it must be dry cleaned. In the process of wool carbonizing treatment, Sulfuric acid and other chemicals are used to remove the impurities. I hope you find this information helpful. Thank you for shopping with us.

      • The best comforter we had was ruined by a professional cleaners that ignored my Dry Clean Please. They eventually paid for same, but as yet still haven't found found one of its quality. Dry clean only unless on of your pets needs a very nice bedding material.

      • Not all organic wool comforters insist they are machine washable. The fact of the matter is that a machine washable wool has to be treated to be so. If you want further treatment of the wool and don't care about what chemicals are adjacent to your body for 8 hours per day, buy a washable wool. I personally would not buy a machine washable wool, period.

    • Is this product treated with any chemicals at all?

      Guidelines
      • Hello stumpette1, This is not treated with any chemicals. Have a great day!

    • What is new English wool and where is the wool from?

      Guidelines
      • Welcome to Overstock! The wool is imported from Australia. We will be up dating the information, so thank you for the great question and for bringing that to our attention.

    • What is the brand of this product?

      Guidelines
      • Thank you for your interest. We are unable to disclose the manufacturer of some of our products; however, Overstock.com stands behind every product we sell. When necessary we can contact suppliers if a product issue arises. Please feel free to contact us again with any further questions.

    • What is the weight of this wool comforter?

      Guidelines
      • The unit weighs 7, 9 and 11 pounds respectively. For a twin, queen/twin and king size comforter.

    • Where is this wool comforter made?

      Guidelines
    • Does this product come in twin size? The dimensions are given for a twin size, but Twin is not an option on the pull-down menu.

      Guidelines
      • If a size is not listed on the drop-down options menu, it is out of stock at this time.

    • Is this product treated with a flame retardent? If so what chemical was used?

      Guidelines
      • No, it''s not treated in that manner.

      • How is this possible that it's not treated with any chemicals or flame retardant? The federal government has stringent rules on bedding and mattresses being flame retardant.

      • Hello ehkim21, I apologize for the delay in response. In the process of wool carbonizing treatment, Sulfuric acid and other chemicals are used to remove the impurities. However we have confirmed there are no fire retardants used on this product. I hope you find this information helpful. Thank you for shopping with us.

      • ehkim21, you are correct about ALL MATTRESSES and FOAM products now requiring toxic fire retardants. However, as of 2013, the US Government has not imposed such nonsense regulations on ADULT blankets and comforters or WOOL mattress pads and toppers. This stupid law also applies to sheepskin bedding and ALL RUGS (including wool and sheepskin), but not to individual pelts. FYI: Both natural wool and sheepskin are naturally flame-retardant (I know, since I have a wool rug (old, no retardants) in front of my woodstove).

    • What is the difference between this product and a wool duvet? Could this product be placed in a duvet cover?

      Guidelines
      • This is a wool comforter, a duvet covers a comforter.

      • A Duvet and a Comforter is the same thing - just British vs. American English! We Americans put our "comforters" inside a "duvet cover."
