I have not used the gate in a number of months AND evidently did not keep the instructions--I can't seem to get the 2 pieces of the handle together in order to slide the gate to fit the doorway snuggly.

Hello CC's mon, the handle should be attached to the gate. I have these same gates and have to apply alot of force on the handle in one of the notches to get it to fit snug. I hope this helps. Have a great day!

Your response did NOT accurately answer my question. I already wrote that it would be pressure mounted. I would like to know if it retains its position or if the exact width has to be reset each time after unlocking it.

How exactly does the locking mechanism work. Please explain what I would have to do to open the gate (i.e. take it out of the doorway since it would be pressure mounted) and then what I would have to do to lock it back into place. Does it hold the position or would I have to reset it each time?
