Activity Centers

When you have a baby, it's hard to find hands-free time. Baby activity centers are the answer to much needed time for parents and babies alike. Mom and Dad can get things done while baby gets to play. Not only do activity centers give parents a break, but they're also educational and beneficial for babies. Activity centers are all-in-one play stations that give babies plenty of toys to play with while also building their motor skills and strengthening legs for when they start walking.
Baby activity centers are similar to walkers, but without the wheels, so your baby stays in one place while he plays. There are several different styles of activity center to choose from. A completely stationary activity center keeps your baby sitting upright in the center with a tray of toys to look at and play with. Some activity centers have a spring design allowing your baby to jump and rock, developing leg muscles for standing and walking. A rotating activity center places toys and activities on a central pivot, and your baby's seat rotates around that central point, letting your baby walk around while he plays without running into any danger. The type of activity center you purchase will depend a lot on you and your baby's needs. If your baby is ready to start learning how to walk, a jumper or rotating activity center is a great choice. If your baby is more interested in playing, a stationary activity center helps him develop motor skills and association skills without being too stimulating.
The best time to invest in a baby activity center is when your baby is able to sit up on his own, but before he starts standing and walking unassisted. This is usually around four to six months. If your baby is too young to sit up on his own, putting him in a play center can be dangerous. When your baby is comfortable sitting on his own and becomes interested in playing with toys and exploring the world around him, you know he's ready for an activity center. Similarly, it's dangerous to put too old of a baby in an activity center. Once your baby begins walking, or even standing, on his own, he's likely too big for his activity center. If your baby is standing and walking, he may end up tipping his activity center over on himself. When you shop for activity centers, you'll want to make sure you choose one with a flat, sturdy base to keep your baby safe while he's playing.
