I purchased this cooler because I am going to start to commute to work (about 2 hours 30 min from home) and stay in a hotel for the weekend. I purchased the house converter so I could use it in my home as well. When it was empty it kept the cooler temperature at approx 42-46 degrees. When I filled it with food it kept the temperature at approx 49-52 degrees. The ambient temperature of my kitchen ranged from 68-74 degrees. So the 40 degrees that they claim it is supposed to get down to isn't the truth. It only lowered the temperature about 20-25 degrees and nothing more. I wouldn't use this cooler as a primary fridge, but it works ok for a day or two with fruits and veggies. Otherwise I wouldn't trust it for expensive food that needs a good cool fridge to keep good.
Although this product performs to its specifications its fan noise is very irritating and loud. I was very dissapointed after plugging it in to find this out. I'll keep it because I can use it as a cooler outside on my deck in the summer where the noise may not matter.
