I purchases a Dyson DC 17 Animal almost 2 years ago. I also purchased the service plan. The vacuum is great only had one problem. It was in need of a replacement part. I found the part number on the Dyson website went to the service plan with the part number for it to be replaced. They informed me I would need to ship the ENTIRE vacuum back to the service department. They cannot send parts to customers. Not only did they instruct me to send the entire unit back I have to find a box able to support and secure the vacuum in transport or it will be refused. The part was $8!! Needless to say it was not worth my time or patience to ship the unit back. I went and ordered the $8 part (a simple hose) from Dyson and called it a day. The service plan would be great if there is major issues but not worth it for replacement parts!!
I have yet to receive any paperwork on this. Hopefully it will arrive soon.
i purchased a Dyson vacuum one year ago and bought the 2 year warranty. The vacuum recently broke and the process to make a claim is totally not worth it. A small piece broke on the button you push to empty the canister. This is a weak, small plastic piece and if you have a dyson, you may want to be very careful as it breaks easily. All I need is a new canister which I could order from Dyson and already have the vacuum fixed but her is the process: 1.) Searched all over Overstock site to find the number to call for warranty service. Finally contacted customer service who gave me another number to call. 2.) Called the "warranty" company and they have to send me a shipping label to return the whole product. It has been five days and I do not have the shipping label. 3.) I called the "warranty" company again to followup, and was informed by the second operator that I could have the shipping label emailed to me which I requested, but if I do then the original shipping label which I may get in another day or two would be voided. And the email wont go out for several days. Argghhhhhhh! 4.) I only need a canister, but instead I have to find a box, mail the entire thing back to "where I don't know" because I don't have the shipping label yet. I asked the customer rep, where is the label being shipped from but they cannot say. 5.) So here we sit 7 days later and still waiting. Overstock needs to look into their warranty program. It is no good. Dyson needs to redesign the thin, frail plastic rod that is on their canister. It is bound to fail frequently because it is weak.
When you need it, you'll be GLAD that you purchased it.
Always recomment the additonal protection on a refurbished item

Since it is a refurbished item, the protection plan is a must!
